APSP
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs was presented an award by APSP in recognition of their outstanding dedication to the aquatic industry and promotion of the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC). Shawn Still, APSP Georgia Chapter director of government affairs, presented the award at the 2017 Building Officials Association of Georgia annual conference. With the assistance of the Georgia agency, a dozen 2012 ISPSC classes were taught throughout Georgia to educate contractors and building code officials since December 2016. In addition, Mr. Still presented an award of appreciation to Ted Miltiades in recognition of his contributions of time and talent to elevate the ISPSC in Georgia. Mr. Miltiades serves as the Director, Office of Construction Codes & Research at the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The next 2012 ISPSC Georgia class will be held this July at the Georgia State Inspectors Association Conference. The 2012 ISPSC became mandatory for all residential pools in Georgia in January 2017. View all of the ISPSC adoptions here. For more information about upcoming Georgia classes, email the APSP Georgia Chapter.

Latham Automatic Safety Covers Meet Barrier Requirement Under ISPSC
Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, Washington, and West Virginia have all adopted the 2015 ISPSC, which allows an automatic safety cover to meet the barrier requirement for inground residential swimming pools. Nearly a dozen individual counties and cities have also adopted the 2015 ISPSC. Other states and municipalities, such as Indiana, have their own local codes that allow an automatic safety cover to be used in lieu of a fence or other barrier.
In addition, 16 states and over 50 individual counties and cities currently use the 2012 ISPSC which allows an automatic safety cover to meet the barrier requirement for inground residential spas.
A homeowner not only receives all the standard benefits of an automatic safety cover, such as safety, energy savings and convenience, they can also save money that would have been spent on other barriers like fences and walls. Be sure to check with your local municipality for their current pool related codes to verify if an automatic safety cover will meet the barrier requirement.

For years, decks, elevated patios and balconies have been popular choices for homeowners when designing or remodeling their outside living spaces. However, until recently, decking options have been limited primarily to wood or composite materials. Natural stone, pavers and tile — while aesthetically appealing — are too heavy and difficult to install on traditional wood joist framing.

SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT |

A well-worn Post-it displaying "WHY" with a circle around it and line through it was hanging from my colleague Pam's monitor. She is respected for her fair, objective approach and is considered by subordinates and peers to be professional, composed and accomplished. When I interviewed her about her stress management techniques, she noted that when she took a break from asking why, she reduced her stress significantly. Here are her tips.

How do professional basketball and the world of business intertwine? Quite easily if you're solely focused on winning. When NBA Finals start, the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to become the league's first back-to-back world champion since the 2012 and 2013 Miami Heat. Coincidentally, those Miami teams and the current Cleveland team feature the same superstar in LeBron James. As the Cavs face the Golden State Warriors for the third consecutive year, James faces a new challenge.
