Safety and energy efficiency topics at upcoming California meetings

Within the next few weeks, the California Energy Commission and the California Pool & Spa Association will be tackling important safety and energy efficiency topics.
- Aug. 3:
The California Energy Commission will host a public workshop regarding proposed energy efficiency regulations for pool pump replacement motors and portable electric spas.
- Aug. 23:
The California Pool & Spa Association will meet with the Department of Pesticide Regulation regarding their investigation of the safety and application of chlorine in swimming pools.

APSP has been working with APSP members Ari Naderi, of Sunset Pools, Inc. and Steven Lavery, of High Sierra Pools, Inc., in fighting legislation in Montgomery County, Maryland. The proposed Expedited Bill 16-17, of Montgomery County, would exempt public pools at certain facilities (hotels) from the requirement to have a lifeguard on duty when the pool is open for use.

ISPSC course travels deep in the heart of Texas

The International Swimming Pool & Spa Code (ISPSC) will be featured this August at the 2017 Building Officials Association (BOAT) of Texas Annual Conference at the Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront. Presented by Bill Irvin, Preferred Pool Inc., on Aug. 10 from 10:30-11:45 a.m., this session will go over why the ISPSC needs to be adopted and will review the pros and cons of adopting the code. OSHA has joined forces with the National Institute for Occupation Safety and Healthy to update its Heat Safety Tool. The smartphone app for iPhone and Android is also a helpful addition to OSHA's Heat Illness Prevention campaign, first launched in 2011. Workers can use the updated app to learn about heat stroke and how to avoid getting it on the job.
