Hot Tub Statistics Program to include Swim Spas in 2017

The IHTA of APSP is pleased to announce the addition of Swim Spas into the Statistics Program, beginning in January of 2017. As statistics for the Portable Hot Tub Market wraps up its third year of manufacturer participation, we are excited to announce that data will now be collected for the Swim Spa market as well. This confidential data is gathered Vault Consulting on a quarterly basis. Thank you to the APSP for their continued support of this initiative and for fully funding these programs for 2017! San Juan Pools of OK joins Fiberglass Pool Manufacturers Council

The APSP Fiberglass Pool Manufacturers Council welcomes Chuck King from San Juan Pools of Oklahoma Inc. (Tulsa). Mr. King brings with him over 40 years of industry experience. San Juan Pools of Oklahoma, Inc. has been a member of APSP since 1974. Mr. King was a founding member of the Oklahoma Chapter of the NSPI and served over the years in various capacities as Director, Treasurer, Vice President and President. San Juan Pools of Oklahoma is the oldest manufacturer of fiberglass pools in the United States. Introducing Skye Svenningsen of Zodiac Pool Systems, Inc. as co-chair for the 2016-2017 WAVE Young Professionals Network. Currently Skye is a Product Manager of automatic pool cleaners at Zodiac Pool Systems, Inc. For nearly eight years, she has worked in manufacturing product development. "I'm excited to partner with Mitch Katz and the entire WAVE Network Steering Committee to develop great events and information for young professionals in the pool, spa and hot tub industry. The swimming pool in Rio was plagued by construction delays, and made headlines around the world after the water turned a shade of green during the Games. Many athletes also complained that the pool had a foul smell.

It looks like Small Business Saturday is here to stay. The annual shopping holiday that encourages consumers to "shop small" at local businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving achieved record numbers this year. Created in 2010 by American Express to help small businesses increase sales during the holidays, this year's event broke all previous records. The cause for the uptick in numbers is multifold, according to spokeswoman Nicole Leinbach Reyhle.

Amazon's latest plan to disrupt the retail industry could finalize the fusion of online and in-store consumer experiences. The tech giant announced its new venture — a corner store called Amazon Go — recently. The 1,800 square-foot store in Seattle has no registers. Instead, shoppers scan into the store with their free Amazon Go app, shop as normal and leave the store with the items billed to their Amazon.com account.

A new salary limit for the Fair Labor Standard Act's overtime rule was supposed to take effect Dec. 1. But the changes, which would affect about 4 million workers, have come to a screeching halt after a preliminary injunction by a federal judge in Texas. The new rule would have allowed more employees to qualify for overtime pay by raising the minimum salary of "exempt" employees from $23,660 to $47,476. Manufacturing expanded in November at the fastest pace in five months, indicating American producers are finding more relief in resilient domestic demand.
The Institute for Supply Management's index increased to 53.2 from 51.9 a month earlier, the Tempe, Arizona-based group's report showed. Readings above 50 indicate growth. The median forecast in a Bloomberg survey of economists was 52.5.
The group's production gauge climbed to an almost two-year high, propelling the overall measure higher for a third month as manufacturers continued to rebound from a late-summer swoon.

President-elect Donald Trump said during his campaign that he would, if elected, persuade the air-conditioner manufacturer Carrier not to shutter a plant in Indiana and move more than 2,000 jobs to Mexico.
Trump was elected, and he has evidently made good on that pledge. Or at least some of the pledge.
Carrier said that it would keep more than 1,000 jobs across two locations in Indiana. (Besides the Carrier plant, a facility operated by its parent United Technologies was also facing cuts.)
