From Nov. 29: The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals expands its fall educational offerings overseas with international partners. Two three-day training programs were offered this Nov. 27-29 - one in Mexico and the other in the United Kingdom.
APSP's partner The British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association (BISHTA) held the first CHTT Certified Hot Technician Course in the United Kingdom. Held at the Pollet Pool Group in Newbury, this historic three day course ushered in a new era in hot tub training for UK based hot tub professionals
APSP's newest international partner, The Asosiación de Profesionales de La Piscina Appac A.C. hosted the three-day PSCC Pool & Spa Construction Course with instructor Rick English from English Pool Consulting as part of their Train-the-Trainer Session in Monterrey, Mexico.

APSP University unveils new online course format with release of CMS course

From Nov. 22: APSP University just released their CMS Certified Maintenance Specialist course in a new online course format. Designed to meet the needs of today’s industry students, the new self-paced online format features videos, interactive exercises and knowledge quizzes. Within the next year, APSP will release their PSCC Pool & Spa Construction Course, CST Certified Service Technician Course, Retail Professional and CHTT Certified Hot Tub Technician Course in the updated format. Those that take the course will have the option to purchase the full course or a specific module such as water quality, structures, pool math or safety. The APSP self-paced certification course is interactive and engaging and provides a positive training experience while teaching new skills. Check out the new course here. From Oct. 4: APSP is pleased to announce the grand opening of the APSP Western office. The Western office will serve as an extension of APSP National in California and Arizona, delivering APSP's core mission to the membership and the pool and hot tub industry. Also, it will help further APSP's effort to develop collaborative opportunities with other industry associations in California. On Oct. 16, Jennifer Farwell will join APSP as the Director of APSP Western Office. She comes to APSP with over 20 years of experience in sales and operations in various industries. Jennifer along with the APSP staff will deliver educational programming, lead advocacy efforts and drive membership through engagement of the membership, industry and the chapters. From Nov. 8: APSP's President & CEO Rich Gottwald is at the 2017 Aquanale Conference this week in Cologne, Germany. During the conference, held on Nov. 7-10, APSP President & CEO Rich Gottwald will present on the current state of the United States pool, spa and hot tub market and will represent the United States as they launch an international federation of pool, spa and hot tub associations. From Nov. 8: Last Thursday, APSP and the Asociación de Profesionales de la Piscina A.C. (APPAC) announced an international partnership, bringing together two respected organizations committed to the advancement of the pool, spa and hot tub industry. (Read the Press Release)
From Nov. 8: During last week’s 2017 International Pool | Spa |Patio Expo, the PPSO Professional Pool & Spa Operator Course made its debut. Attendees got a sneak peek of the course and learned how they can take or teach it. This new certification course zeroes in on the core skills needed for safe and efficient pool and spa operations, and is designed to meet the learning styles of non-technical as well as technical students so they have the solid foundation needed to be successful pool operators and meet health and safety standards at facilities nationwide. Students can register to take the course as early as January 2018 at these upcoming regional locations: Southwest Pool & Spa Show, Southeast Pool & Spa Show, Northeast Spa & Pool Association and the Western Pool & Spa Show. From June 28: According to a presentation given by the Electric Shock Drowning Prevention Association at the 2014 National Fire Protection Association Conference, most swimming or aquatic related electrical shock incidents happen in public and private marinas and docks rather than pools. A recent Today Show broadcast stated that most of these incidents occur in pools, which is inaccurate and is not supported by any known data.

From March 29: The Internet has fallen in love with Brad's wife. Well, maybe it's more like an infatuation. Either way, it has left Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in a tough spot. According to Internet reports, the restaurant chain fired Nanette Byrd after 11 loyal and hard-working years. Her husband, Brad, later asked for an explanation on the company's Facebook page, with no response. Once comedian Amiri King posted about the situation on Twitter, memes and hashtags flourished.

From July 26: APSP has been working with APSP members Ari Naderi, of Sunset Pools, Inc. and Steven Lavery, of High Sierra Pools, Inc., in fighting legislation in Montgomery County, Maryland. The proposed Expedited Bill 16-17, of Montgomery County, would exempt public pools at certain facilities (hotels) from the requirement to have a lifeguard on duty when the pool is open for use.
