Annual Project Excellence Award: Applications Deadline February 15, 2022

GBA is excited to announce the 2022 Outstanding Project Award. With this prestigious award, GBA will recognize some of the most outstanding projects by its members who live and demonstrate the vision of GBA to great accomplishment. Winners of this award will truly showcase their hard work and contributions to society in front of all of their peers, clients and other professionals from across North America.


Winners will receive a plaque, will be recognized at GBA’s Annual Awards Ceremony in April 2022, and present their project at GBA’s 2022 Fall Conference.

GBA Updated Best Practices: Commentary on the Model Request for Proposal

Ask the right questions before you submit a proposal.


The “Model Request for Proposal” document outlines many virtues of a well-planned out proposal request for geoprofessional activities for a project. The document discusses exploration approaches, the need for clarity in the planned construction and site configuration and offers discussion points for owners and their design team for consideration.


Further, the document can be used amongst geotechnical engineers and geologists in a firm as a training basis on the baseline requirements for a solid proposal.

ABMS Endorses GBA’s Proposed Best Practices for the Engineer of Record for Tailings Dams

The Brazilian Association of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ABMS) recently declared that the Proposed Best Practices for the Engineer of Record for Tailings Dams, published by the Geoprofessional Business Association (GBA), is a comprehensive guide and has the tools needed to apply the Registration Engineer concept for mining tailings dams in Brazil.


ABMS endorses this guide as a reference to the management and safety of dams, a theme of great relevance for Brazilian engineering and society today.

Louis Armstrong Joins University of Michigan Webinar on Climate Change as a Panelist

In January, all Kleinfelder staff were invited to register for a free webinar event hosted by the University of Michigan Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, titled Adaptation to sea level rise: Dutch experiences and global challenges with Bas Jonkman.

Following the webinar’s main presentation by Bas Jonkman, professor of Hydraulic Engineering at Delft University, the Netherlands and Chair of Integral Hydraulic Engineering, Louis and the other panelists helped answer questions related to the subject at hand – the effects of various sea-level rise scenarios and options for adaptation – as well as how students could get involved in the professions that will help solve these problems.
