OPTN/UNOS is offering nine proposals for public comment. You are encouraged to post comments on their website during the public comment period that runs January 22 – March 22, 2019. Your voice is important and considered during the OPTN/UNOS policy development process. During the public comment period, UNOS offers national webinars to provide members an opportunity to learn about proposals on the upcoming regional meeting agenda and ask questions of presenters/subject matter experts. The COPs will be reviewing the proposals and providing feedback for the AST's Policy Committee to develop a Society response for Board approval. If you would like to also submit your individual comments to AST for consideration as part of this process, please email them to scovington@myast.org with the subject line PUBLIC COMMENT.

The Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute is accepting nominations for the 2020 Thomas E. Starzl Prize in Surgery and Immunology, awarded annually to a national or international leader in the field of organ transplantation and immunology. The prize consists of a crystal award, an honorarium of $10,000, and travel expenses to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the spring of 2020 to formally receive the award and to present the Thomas E. Starzl Prize in Surgery and Immunology lecture. The winner will also participate in related activities and meet informally with faculty, post-doctoral fellows and students.

The goal of the ASTS Cellular Transplantation Committee is to advance the knowledge and promote clinical and research work in the field of cellular transplantation. One of this year’s initiatives that was set forward by the ASTS Cellular Transplantation Committee is to conduct the survey of ongoing research and clinical work in the areas of cellular products and therapies. The purpose of the project is to assess areas of interest of research within the transplant community. This survey should take approximately 10 minutes.

The Third International Workshop on Clinical Tolerance was held in Stanford, California, September 8–9, 2017. This is a summary of Workshop presentations of clinical trials designed to withdraw or minimize immunosuppressive drugs in kidney and liver transplant patients without subsequent evidence of rejection. All clinical protocols had in common the use of donor or recipient cell therapy combined with organ transplantation.

Currently, the ability to predict or monitor the efficacy of HLA antibody–removal therapies is deficient. We previously reported that titration studies are a consistent and accurate means of assessing antibody strength. To test whether titration studies can also predict which patients are better candidates for desensitization, we studied 38 patients from three centers.
