The recent outbreak of a novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China and the finding of infection in many other countries including the United States has led to questions among transplant programs, Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) and patients. Please visit the OPTN website for more information.
The AST's Infectious Disease Community of Practice (IDCOP) developed frequently asked questions sheet to relay information on the current state of 2019-nCoV knowledge after receiving queries from transplant colleagues.

There are many factors that may put a graft at risk, such as infections, nephrotoxicity, declining adherence, and inadequate immunosuppression. It can be difficult to achieve a balance between overimmunosuppression and underimmunosuppression in kidney transplant patients, putting patients at risk.

Patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) can be listed for liver transplantation (LT) because LT is the only curative treatment option. We evaluated whether the clinical course of ACLF, particularly ACLF-3, between the time of listing and LT affects 1-year post-transplant survival.

Living kidney donation is associated with increased long-term risk of end-stage renal disease (ESRD). An early postdonation marker of ESRD risk could improve postdonation risk assessment and counseling for kidney donors and allow early intervention for donors at increased risk. The objective of the study was to determine the association between renal function in the first six months postdonation and subsequent risk of ESRD in kidney donors.

Recipients of simultaneous liver‐kidney transplants (SLKT) have a lower risk of rejection compared with recipients of kidney transplants alone. However, there is disagreement about the impact of pre‐transplant anti‐HLA sensitization on patient and kidney graft survival in the long‐term. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of the recipient immunological risk and comorbidities in renal graft outcome on SLKT.

Variability in transplant access exists, but barriers to referral and evaluation are underexplored due to lack of national surveillance data. Researchers examined referral for kidney transplantation evaluation and start of the evaluation among 34 857 incident, adult (18‐79 years) end‐stage kidney disease patients from 690 dialysis facilities in the United States Renal Data System from Jan. 1, 2012, through Aug. 31, 2016, followed through February 2018.
