The newly developed Travel for Techniques in Transplantation Research (T3R) Program supports the travel of a scientist to the laboratory of another scientist to acquire a new technique. This program fulfills a goal of the AST Research Network to facilitate bringing novel, cutting edge techniques to transplant biology research labs and clinical scientists. OPTN/UNOS is offering nine proposals for public comment. You are encouraged to post comments on their website during the public comment period that runs January 22 – March 22, 2019. Your voice is important and considered during the OPTN/UNOS policy development process. During the public comment period, UNOS offers national webinars to provide members an opportunity to learn about proposals on the upcoming regional meeting agenda and ask questions of presenters/subject matter experts. The COPs will be reviewing the proposals and providing feedback for the AST's Policy Committee to develop a Society response for Board approval. The Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute is accepting nominations for the 2020 Thomas E. Starzl Prize in Surgery and Immunology, awarded annually to a national or international leader in the field of organ transplantation and immunology. The prize consists of a crystal award, an honorarium of $10,000, and travel expenses to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the spring of 2020 to formally receive the award and to present the Thomas E. Starzl Prize in Surgery and Immunology lecture. The winner will also participate in related activities and meet informally with faculty, post-doctoral fellows and students.

The goal of the ASTS Cellular Transplantation Committee is to advance the knowledge and promote clinical and research work in the field of cellular transplantation. One of this year’s initiatives that was set forward by the ASTS Cellular Transplantation Committee is to conduct the survey of ongoing research and clinical work in the areas of cellular products and therapies. The purpose of the project is to assess areas of interest of research within the transplant community. This survey should take approximately 10 minutes.

Antibody-mediated rejection is a principal cause of acute and chronic failure of lung allografts. However, mechanisms mediating this oftentimes fatal complication are poorly understood. Here, we show that Foxp3+T cells formed aggregates in rejection-free human lung grafts and accumulated within induced bronchus-associated lymphoid tissue of tolerant mouse lungs.

Colorectal cancer screening with colonoscopy is commonly used in candidate patients for liver transplantation. We initiated this study to define the risk‐benefit ratio of performing screening colonoscopy in this population. A retrospective observational study of all consecutive patients undergoing colonoscopy during pre-liver transplantation screening between 2004–17 was conducted.

Donation before circulatory death for imminently dying patients has been proposed to address organ scarcity and harms of non‐donation. To characterize stakeholder attitudes about organ recovery before circulatory death we conducted semi‐structured interviews with family members who had experienced a loved one's unsuccessful donation after circulatory death and focus groups with professional stakeholders.

Acute‐on‐Chronic Liver Failure characterized with extra‐hepatic organ failures in cirrhosis carries a high mortality. Outcomes of patients listed for liver transplant after ACLF and after LT are largely unknown. North American Consortium for the Study of End‐Stage Liver Disease prospectively enrolled 2,793 non-electively hospitalized patients with cirrhosis; 768 were LT-listed.
