The Comprehensive Immunosuppressive Drug Coverage for Kidney Transplant Patients Act of 2020, also known as the Immuno Bill, was just introduced in the Senate. This legislation would extend Medicare coverage of immunosuppressive drugs for kidney transplant recipients, which is currently limited to just 36 months. Please take a moment to contact your Senators about this important legislation (and if you haven’t already, please also reach out to your House representative to do the same!)

Recently, Cogswell and colleagues presented analysis of changes in waitlist and post-transplant survival following modifications to the United States adult donor heart allocation system in October 2018. Based on early data from the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) registry with follow-up through June 6, 2019, the analysis demonstrated a significant increase in the unadjusted hazard of post-transplant death or retransplantation up to 180 days among single-organ recipients.

Potential deceased organ donors are screened for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV‐1), hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) with serologic and nucleic acid tests (NAT). The results of these tests on the utilization of donors has not been directly measured.
Twenty six organ procurement organizations provided primary HIV, HBV, and HCV screening results and utilization information for donor referrals evaluated from 2004 to 2017.
