The AST endorsed efforts by Sen. Baldwin (D-WI) in a letter to applaud her introduction of S. 3584, the Workers First Protection Act. The bill seeks to the issuance of a comprehensive emergency temporary standard to protect workers against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The AST drafted a letter to the Majority and Minority Leaders regarding the critical need for PPE and other resources to effectively combat the COVID-19 virus.
The Society joined more than 200 other organizations in a letter to the Administration asking for immediate action to alleviate the critical shortage across the nation of ventilators and personal protective equipment resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The AST Joined a number of organizations in a letter to request significant long-term investment in public health infrastructure that is critical to support the public health system as it rebuilds from the COVID-19 crisis and prepares for future public health demands.

Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is the current standard therapy for PBC. For weeks we watched as Wuhan, China was ravaged by the novel severe acute
respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), wondering what the future had in store for
us. On Jan. 21, 2020, the first case of COVID-19 on U.S. soil was identified 20 miles north of
Seattle in the town of Everett, Wash. On Friday Feb. 28, the nation's first reported
death due to COVID-19 infection was disclosed, followed by the second mortality case a mere 48
hours later. Both were end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients dialyzing with Northwest Kidney
Centers in our ambulatory clinics, and subsequently under the care of our Hospital Services
team. Over the course of that weekend, our organization was brought to the forefront of the
COVID-19 pandemic, mandating an immediate and coordinated response.

The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation
The number of potential pediatric heart transplant recipients continues to exceed the number of donors, and consequently the waitlist mortality remains significant. Despite this, around 40 percent of all donated organs are not used and are discarded. This document evaluates factors responsible for discarding donor hearts and makes recommendations regarding donor heart acceptance. The aim of this statement is to ensure that no usable donor heart is discarded, wait-list mortality is reduced, and post-transplant survival is not adversely impacted.

Banff Digital Pathology Working Group
The Banff Digital Pathology Working Group (DPWG) was formed in the time leading up to and during the joint American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI)/Banff Meeting, Sept. 23-27, 2019, held in Pittsburgh, Pa. At the meeting, the 14th Banff Conference, presentations directly and peripherally related to the topic of "digital pathology" were presented; and discussions before, during, and after the meeting have resulted in a list of issues to address for the DPWG. Included are practice standardization, integrative approaches for study classification, scoring of histologic parameters, algorithm classification, and precision diagnosis.
