Transplantation is a highly specialized, rapidly evolving field, incorporating clinical medicine, basic and translational immunology, and uniquely operating within a complex ethical, legal and regulatory framework.
Transplantation fellowships provide excellent training in clinical care of patients but the ability to lead academic transplant programs requires additional skills, beyond the scope of a traditional fellowship program. A dedicated, full-time program of formal training in transplant-related scientific, academic and leadership skills, which is complementary to clinical training, could address many of these learning needs, and develop the future leaders in our field.
We are conducting a survey on the need for specialized training in transplantation and your input would be appreciated. Please click on the link below to start the survey. Thank you for your participation!

UNOS
On Thursday, May 10, you should have received an email from the Southeastern Institute of Research (SIR). That email contains a link to a member survey initiated by UNOS and conducted by SIR as an unbiased third party. Please take 12 to 15 minutes from your busy schedule to respond to the questions. SIR will evaluate and compile your responses and will share them with UNOS in aggregate form only to ensure your confidentiality. Your honest feedback will help UNOS improve areas that are most important to you and guide their future work.
If you did not receive a survey, please contact your UNOS Regional Administrator at 804-782-4800.

A partnership between the AST and ASHI supported a workgroup to discuss current knowledge and provide recommendation for alloimmune sensitization in the context of solid organ transplantation (Sensitization in Transplantation: Assessment of Risk – STAR). The group was composed of experts in all transplant related fields including Histocompatibility, Nephrology, Hepatology, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Pathology and Basic Science. An Executive summary was just published in the American Journal of Transplantation.
The STAR process is likely to continue as on-going discussions in future meetings – to be open for audience participation. More details to come.

Many living kidney donors undertake a significant financial burden in order to donate. We studied the association between time to return to work and reported financial burden. Kidney donors, who donated from 2/2005 – through 12/2015 (n=1012) were surveyed 6 months postdonation, and asked about occupation; time to return to work; and financial burden (on a 10‐point Likert scale).
