Flu Shot Information for Transplant Recipients and Candidates
AST
The AST supports the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendations that all individuals older than 6 months of age who do not have contraindications to vaccination, including those with immunocompromising conditions (including organ transplant candidates and recipients) receive a routine annual influenza vaccination. Please be aware that this recommendation applies to the general public and is especially important for health care workers and household contacts. Survey: Acceptance Criteria for Living Donors with a History of COVID-19
AST
As we move forward in these unprecedented times of the pandemic a critical question facing our transplant programs is if, when and how to safely accept living kidney donors who have recovered from COVID-19 Infection. To gain a better understanding of the magnitude and variability, in the acceptance criteria of such living donors we are seeking your responses to a brief survey. We estimate the survey will not take more than 5-10 minutes of your time.

Now Available: New Non-Medical Doctoral Membership Category
AST
As you may have heard, the AST Board of Directors recently approved a new membership category for Non-Medical doctoral degree holders with a $250 dues cost and an available optional AJT subscription. This category is now open to new members through AST's online application. If you have colleagues eligible for this category, including holders of PhD, PharmD, PsyD, DNP, and other doctoral-level degrees without an accompanying medical degree (MD, DO, MBBS, etc.), please encourage them to apply - and don't forget that if you refer three new members, you can receive one year of free membership through our Member-Get-A-Member program.

Creation of this new membership category with more affordable dues will make consistent long-term membership in the AST more attainable for all of our members. AST hopes that making this change will support further growth in the diversity of transplant disciplines represented under AST's umbrella, thereby strengthening our voice in the transplant community.

If you have any questions or feedback to share, please contact AST's Membership Team at info@myast.org.

A Multi-Center Case Series Documenting Medicare Part D Plan Denials of Immunosuppressant Drug Coverage for Organ Transplant Recipients
    American Journal of Transplantation
Medicare Part D plans make coverage decisions according to FDA‐labeled indications and off‐label uses endorsed by two CMS‐recognized compendia. Patients who rely on Medicare Part D for immunosuppressive drug coverage are at risk for denied coverage when these medications are prescribed off‐label. The purpose of this multi‐center collaboration was to assemble a case series documenting situations where immunosuppressive therapies prescribed for transplant patients were denied by Medicare Part D prescription drug plans.

Simultaneous Robotic Kidney Transplantation and Bariatric Surgery for Morbidly Obese Patients with End‐stage Renal Failure
    American Journal of Transplantation
Patients with obesity have limited access to kidney transplantation, mainly due to an increased incidence of surgical complications, which could be reduced with selective use of robotic‐assisted surgery. This prospective randomized controlled trial compares the safety and efficacy of combining robotic sleeve gastrectomy and robotic‐assisted kidney transplant to robotic kidney transplant alone in candidates with class II or III obesity.

Patient Frailty is Independently Associated with the Risk of Acute on Chronic Liver Failure Hospitalization
    Liver Transplantation
There is significant interest in identifying risk factors associated with acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF). In transplant candidates, frailty predicts waitlist mortality and post‐transplant outcomes. However, the impact of frailty on ACLF development and mortality is unknown.
