Introducing the Living Donor Circle of Excellence
AST
The AST is proud to introduce the Living Donor Circle of Excellence program! The vision for this program was inspired by the need to increase living organ donation by removing financial barriers donors sometimes encounter. Today, many employers do not offer any kind of compensation to an employee recovering from donating an organ. The Circle aims to change that. By recognizing companies who support living donation through providing salary support post-surgery, the AST envisions more people will consider this altruistic act.

Improved Survival After Heart Transplantation in Patients Bridged With Ecmo in the New Allocation System
The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation
Historically, patients bridged on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) to heart transplantation (HT) have very high post-transplant mortality. In the new HT allocation system, ECMO supported patients have the highest priority for HT. However, data is lacking on outcomes of these critically ill patients. We compared waitlist and post-transplant outcomes of ECMO supported patients in the new and old allocation systems.

Liver Transplant in a Recently COVID-19 Positive Child with Hepatoblastoma
Pediatric Transplantation
We describe the successful pediatric liver transplant for unresectable hepatoblastoma in a 4-year-old male with COVID-19 prior to transplant. The first negative nasopharyngeal (NP) swab was documented one month after initial diagnosis, when SARS-CoV-2 antibodies were also detected. The patient was actively listed for liver transplant after completing four blocks of a SIOPEL-4 based regimen due to his PRETEXT IV disease which remained unresectable. Following three additional negative NP swabs and resolution of symptoms for four weeks, he underwent a whole-organ pediatric liver transplant.
