Volunteer Opportunity - Spanish Translation Reviews
|
   |
AST
In keeping up with our patient initiatives, we spent 2018 updating our current patient education brochures, including Spanish translations to ensure more patients have access to educational materials. We are looking to our Spanish speaking members to volunteer their time to review the documents for accuracy. There are a total of 16 brochures that are in need of review, so the more volunteers, the better! Please contact Mrs. Rae Massi, AST's Patient Education Program Managers, by email to show your interest: rmassi@myAST.org.

Are you a diplomate of the ABIM? Confused on the new options for testing and re-certification?
Here are a few important things to know:
- Sign into the ABIM physician portal – what you personally need to do to re-certify should be clearly spelled out for you.
- Two options exist for testing to stay certified – the 2 year KCI (knowledge check-in) test and the standard every 10 year test. The 2 year KCI can be done at home and should take about 2-3 hours to do whereas the 10 year test is an all-day test at a testing center.
- To stay certified, you need to earn 100 MOC points every 5 years after certification or re-certification; and every 2 years you’ll need to complete at least one MOC activity of any point value. Some of the sessions at ATC offer MOC points! This year, we will make it clear in the program which sessions offer MOC points.

Uterus transplantation from live donors became a reality to treat infertility following a successful Swedish 2014 series, inspiring uterus transplantation centres and programmes worldwide. However, no case of livebirth via deceased donor uterus has, to our knowledge, been successfully achieved, raising doubts about its feasibility and viability, including whether the womb remains viable after prolonged ischaemia.

Improvement in cognitive function after orthotopic liver transplantation (LT) has been demonstrated in the acute setting immediately after LT and in acute liver failure. However, the longterm changes in cerebral hemodynamics after LT remain unexplored. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the longterm changes in cerebral hemodynamics of patients with cirrhosis after LT.

Liver Transplantation
The cava‐preserving piggyback (PB) technique requires only partial cava clamping during the anhepatic phase in liver transplantation (LT) and, therefore, maintains venous return and may hemodynamically stabilize the recipient. Hence, it is an ongoing debate whether PB implantation is more protective from acute kidney injury (AKI) after LT when compared with a classic cava replacement (CR) technique. The aim of this study was to assess the rate of AKI and other complications after LT comparing both transplant techniques without the use of venovenous bypass.

This study was designed to construct a 1‐year post‐transplant graft‐loss risk score incorporating recipient and donor characteristics. The study included all adult first single‐organ recipients transplanted between 2010 and 2014 (N=1776).
