There are many factors that may put a graft at risk, such as infections, nephrotoxicity, declining adherence, and inadequate immunosuppression. It can be difficult to achieve a balance between overimmunosuppression and underimmunosuppression in kidney transplant patients, putting patients at risk.

The purpose of this study was to assess the availability of mental health (MH) and chemical dependency (CD) services at U.S. transplant centers, because appropriate psychosocial assessment and care is associated with better transplant outcomes. We used the 2017‐18 American Hospital Association survey, Area Health Resource File, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Hospital Compare databases to quantify availability of services and examined associations of hospital‐ and health services area‐level characteristics with odds of offering services with generalized linear mixed models.

Diagnosing lung transplant rejection currently depends on histologic assessment of transbronchial biopsies (TBB) with limited reproducibility and considerable risk of complications. Mucosal biopsies are safer but not histologically interpretable. Microarray‐based diagnostic systems for TBBs and other transplants suggest such systems could assess mucosal biopsies as well. We studied 243 mucosal biopsies from the third bronchial bifurcation (3BMBs) collected from seven centers and classified them using unsupervised machine learning algorithms.

Living organ donors face direct costs when donating an organ, including transportation, lodging, meals, and lost wages. For those most in need, the National Living Donor Assistance Center (NLDAC) provides reimbursement to defray travel and subsistence costs associated with living donor evaluation, surgery, and follow‐up. While this program currently supports 9% of all U.S. living donors, there is tremendous variability in its utilization across U.S. transplant centers, which may limit patient access to living donor transplantation.

The burden of CKD is rising among patients with cirrhosis — it is not known what impact this has had on post‐LT outcomes. All patients listed for LT in the U.S. between 2002‐17 were analyzed, excluding those listed with MELD exceptions. The primary outcome was post‐LT mortality. We defined CKD pre‐LT as an eGFR<60 ml>

Decades of clinical evidence has shown that HLA-specific antibodies may lead to hyperacute antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR).
Today, ABMR remains a major challenge to successful transplantation, but detection of donor specific antibodies (DSA) is the best tool for stratifying risk. LABScreen Single Antigen Beads remain the worldwide leader for the detection of DSA. Learn More

Clinical Key
The popular sense of the word "cure" implies that a patient treated for a specific disease will return to have the same life-expectancy as if he/she had never had the disease. Read the full accepted manuscript from Clinical Key. The cure model suggests that resection can provide the same life-expectancy of patients with chronic hepatitis — cirrhosis in 26.3% of cases, and the same life-expectancy of general population in 17.1%. Patients resected in the most recent years had higher cure probabilities, probably due to modern effective antiviral therapies.
