Introducing the Living Donor Circle of Excellence
AST
The AST is proud to introduce the Living Donor Circle of Excellence program! The vision for this program was inspired by the need to increase living organ donation by removing financial barriers donors sometimes encounter. Today, many employers do not offer any kind of compensation to an employee recovering from donating an organ. The Circle aims to change that. By recognizing companies who support living donation through providing salary support post-surgery, the AST envisions more people will consider this altruistic act.

Flu Shot Information for Transplant Recipients and Candidates
AST
The AST supports the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendations that all individuals older than 6 months of age who do not have contraindications to vaccination, including those with immunocompromising conditions (including organ transplant candidates and recipients) receive a routine annual influenza vaccination. Please be aware that this recommendation applies to the general public and is especially important for health care workers and household contacts. Check out our website to view our statement and flu shot flyer.

Survey: Acceptance Criteria for Living Donors with a History of COVID-19
AST
As we move forward in these unprecedented times of the pandemic a critical question facing our transplant programs is if, when and how to safely accept living kidney donors who have recovered from COVID-19 Infection. To gain a better understanding of the magnitude and variability, in the acceptance criteria of such living donors we are seeking your responses to a brief survey. We estimate the survey will not take more than 5-10 minutes of your time.

Liver transplant (LT) patients represent one of the largest immunosuppressed cohorts. However, outcomes of COVID-19 in this population remain poorly defined although liver injury has been reported in patients with COVID-19. We sought to examine characteristics of LT patients infected with COVID-19 and study the rates of hospitalization, mortality, thrombosis, or ICU requirement in LT with COVID-19 in the U.S.

The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation
Donor-recipient human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DR locus matching may be protective against bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) in lung transplant recipients. It is unknown whether this benefit is more significant among sensitized (CPRA>0%) and highly sensitized (CPRA≥80%) recipients, who may be at higher risk for BOS.
