Introducing the Living Donor Circle of Excellence
AST
The AST is proud to introduce the Living Donor Circle of Excellence program! The vision for this program was inspired by the need to increase living organ donation by removing financial barriers donors sometimes encounter. Today, many employers do not offer any kind of compensation to an employee recovering from donating an organ. The Circle aims to change that. By recognizing companies who support living donation through providing salary support post-surgery, the AST envisions more people will consider this altruistic act.

Immunosuppression in de novo kidney transplant recipients
    Promoted by Veloxis Pharmaceuticals
There are many factors that may put a graft at risk, such as infections, nephrotoxicity, declining adherence, and inadequate immunosuppression. It can be difficult to achieve a balance between overimmunosuppression and underimmunosuppression in kidney transplant patients, putting patients at risk. Advertisement

Complement Activation on Endothelium Initiates Antibody-Mediated Acute Lung Injury
    The Journal of Clinical Investigation
Antibodies targeting human leukocyte antigen (HLA)/major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins limit successful transplantation and transfusion, and their presence in blood products can cause lethal transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI). It is unclear which cell types are bound by these anti-leukocyte antibodies to initiate an immunologic cascade resulting in lung injury.

COVID‐19 Outcomes in Patients Waitlisted for Kidney Transplantation and Kidney Transplant Recipients
    American Journal of Transplantation
The COVID‐19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to the transplant community. The reduction in transplantation volume during this time is partly due to concerns over potentially increased susceptibility and worsened outcomes of COVID‐19 in immunosuppressed recipients. The consequences of COVID‐19 on patients waitlisted for kidney transplantation, however, have not previously been characterized.

Clinical Implications of SARS‐CoV‐2 Cycle Threshold Values in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients
    American Journal of Transplantation
Detection of SARS‐CoV‐2 viral RNA by RT‐PCR assays is the primary diagnostic test for COVID‐19. Cycle threshold (CT) values generated by some of these assays provide inversely proportional proxy measurements of viral load.
