New Universitywide Structure Revamps Cornell Tech Licensing Office

A new universitywide strategy and organizational framework to support technology transfer and commercialization of Cornell's intellectual property is being implemented, according to Robert A. Buhrman, senior vice provost for research and vice president for technology transfer, intellectual property and research policy.
Pitt, Ex-NFL Quarterback Team Up, Develop New Local Company

The University of Pittsburgh has announced a new partnership with former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch, along with several partners, to launch a wellness, fitness, human-performance and rehabilitation-focused company. According to a press release, the Pittsburgh-based startup, called Impellia, will develop and commercialize Pitt-created technologies and other technologies from around the country.

HSC Research Helps Biopharmaceutical Startup Battle Cancer

The New Mexico Start-Up Factory has announced that it has launched ExoVita Biosciences, Inc., an early stage biopharmaceutical company that is developing treatments to enlist the body's own defenses in eliminating cancerous growths. The company is based on technology developed by Kristina Trujillo, Ph.D., a research assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center.

Growing Grass Where the Sun Doesn't Shine

Sometimes the grass really is greener on the other side. Just ask Bill Carraway, vice president of marketing at The Turfgrass Group, which markets and licenses TifGrand, a shade- and wear-tolerant cultivar developed by researchers at the University of Georgia.
"Having a Bermudagrass that can tolerate shade is something those of us in the turf business have wanted our whole lives," he said. "A Bermudagrass that can tolerate shade is a phenomenon."
