Researchers at the University of California have found a way to create tiny lasers on silicon, taking a significant step in the use of light to produce more powerful, energy-efficient microprocessors. The advancement points to the possibility of being able to build nanolasers on silicon within the current infrastructure for manufacturing processors. Bing Energy, Inc., a manufacturer of components for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, has entered into a commercialization agreement with Florida State University that gives the company exclusive use of a technology that it says will create "a new generation of hydrogen fuel cells" that are less expensive, smaller, lighter and more durable. The technology, developed by Jim P. Zheng, Ph.D., a professor at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering. More
