After many years of contentious debate, in 2011, the America Invents Act (AIA) was signed into law. Alas, this act did not help America to invent anything — nor was it ever intended to do that.

Veteran Entrepreneur Explores New Way of Giving Back to UCLA

Michael Silton is looking to add UCLA to that list, and he's come up with a unique way of funding that effort. Silton has come up with a way for young entrepreneurs to give back to UCLA at the same time they take advantage of the university's venture fund — give stock in startups.
New Mexico Regents Considering $13 Million in High-Tech Hub

An effort to establish a high-tech research and development center in downtown Albuquerque could get an infusion of cash depending on what the University of New Mexico's Board of Regents decides. The board plans on reviewing proposals to invest $13 million in the Innovate ABQ initiative. It is modeled on a similar technology jobs "ecosystem" around the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla.

CDRD to Tackle Bladder Cancer

The Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD) has launched Sitka Biopharma, a spinout looking to commercialize bladder cancer treatment. The new company was launched through the CDRD's tech transfer unit, CDRD Ventures, and utilizes research emerged through a collaboration between the organization and the University of British Columbia.

AUTM has launched the data collection phase for the new AUTM Royalty and Deals Database, a powerful comprehensive database of transactional terms and conditions that only AUTM could amass.
We need your deals!
AUTM directors were sent login instructions in November. If you will be responsible for entering deals for your institution and you did not receive an email with your login and a link to the database, contact help@peerfocus.com and Chrys Gwellem at AUTM headquarters: cgwellem@autm.net or 1-847-559-0846, Ext. 360.
To make the Royalty and Deals Database as successful and meaningful as possible, please visit the database and enter your deals as soon as possible. As an incentive to provide content, your institution will receive a discount on the subscription price of the Royalty and Deals Database based on the number deals contributed. The exact pricing model is still being developed.
Types of Deals to Enter
While we are interested in a broad spectrum of license agreements (e.g., exclusive as well as nonexclusive) covering a range of industry sectors (e.g., biomedical, nanotechnology, etc.), we are particularly interested in deals that contain a variety of business terms (e.g., upfront payments, milestones, equity, etc.).
