How thermal sprayed copper can be effective against COVID-19
AWS Welding Digest
From June 1: Copper, the first metal manipulated by humans to make everything from tools to jewelry, is now making headlines for another reason — its antimicrobial properties.
A recent United States government-funded study conducted by researchers at the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, remained viable for up to two to three days on plastic and stainless-steel surfaces but only up to four hours on copper.

College Candy
From January 26: Over the last few decades, higher education has become the new norm. Teenagers feel pressured to attend college, where demanding classes drown them in debt. The challenges of starting a welding school
AWS Welding Digest
From August 3: Stephanie Hoffman writes: As a welding instructor, I have often dreamt about opening my own welder training facility, but have always looked at it as an unobtainable dream. I can't even begin to imagine how would I prepare myself to make my very own school a reality. With this in mind, I thought I would love to talk to someone with first-hand experience — so I asked Scott Raabe, who recently did the very thing I find so unobtainable in starting Precision Welding Academy, Katy, Texas. He gave me a glimpse into his teaching styles and what it takes to open a training facility.

Engine drive remote solutions give welders more control
AWS Welding Digest
From February 2: When welding and repairs are done in the field, there are plenty of challenges that can add time and costs to the project.
On a jobsite, operators may be working far away from their trucks. If they want to turn their machine on or off, or when parameter changes are inevitably needed, they are ultimately required to return to the power source. To avoid that hassle, operators often leave their machine running constantly and are tempted to weld with the parameters already set — even when those parameters aren’t ideal for the job at hand.
