Seeking solutions to supply chain snags
The Tube & Pipe Journal
Two years into the pandemic, and global supply chains continue to sputter. The disruptions caused by choked ports and rising prices for raw materials show no signs of abating, and many analysts think it could be years before these issues are fully resolved. This means that time alone will not solve these problems. Supply chain issues have many causes, and bold, decisive actions are needed to address them.

Nature is metal for this welding couple in houston
Texas Monthly
In a cavernous former foundry in Houston, Michelle O’Michael stands on a milk crate so she can reach the surface of her welding table. Sparks, soot, smoke, and steel make up her palette as this sculptor creates monumental art pieces for public spaces all over the country.

Bending Basics: Grain direction's effect on sheet metal bending
The Fabricator
Very few trade-specific terms are interchangeable. One person’s bend allowance cannot be another person’s k-factor, and a k-factor is not a bend deduction—though I visit shops where this is precisely the case. Because these terms have exact meanings and applications, misusing them makes communicating complex ideas complicated and creating quality parts much harder to accomplish.

When metal fabricators and welders enter the 'Twilight Zone'
The Fabricator
We love to joke about the magic of welding. A shadowy shaman metal crafter takes your broken thing or pile of parts, disappears behind a mostly opaque curtail, says a spell, waves a wand, makes hellish noises. Poof! In a dissipating cloud of smoke, a welder reemerges, holding a finished product worthy of a response like, “Hey, thanks, looks great! Can I buy you a Coke?”

Surface patterning with shadow masks for metal surfaces
AZo Nano
Surface patterning is the general term used to describe high-precision fabrication methods that modify substrates. There is an increasing need for detailed surface structures across a range of scientific disciplines and many ways in which such surface patterns can be produced. This article explores surface patterning with shadow masks, which has become an important instrument for rapidly fabricating thin film components destined for microelectronics in a repeatable way.

Twin-wire GMAW meets the pipe welding cobot
The Fabricator
Pipe spool welding is a complicated business. Diameters and wall thicknesses vary slightly; it’s just the nature of the beast. That makes fit-up an act of compromise and welding an act of adaptation. The process hasn’t been easy to automate, and good pipe welders are rarer than ever.

How do robots widely apply in PCB manufacturing
Robotics & Automation News
The PCB manufacturing industry is becoming complex daily with the shrinking size of components and circuits. The high density of components, multiple layers, delicate and tiny parts, and small pitches demand precision and extra care in this industry. As a result, despite being a technology-intensive industry, it is still labor intensive.
