Employers added 431,000 jobs in March, slightly below estimates

The job market cooled slightly in March as employers added 431,000 jobs, the Labor Department reported. That is down from February’s 678,000 and also below expectations for around 470,00. The unemployment rate, meanwhile, ticked down to 3.6% from last month’s 3.8% and is now hovering close to its pre-pandemic record level of 3.5%

Initiative to help students learn welding and construction skills, meet employers
UpNorthLive
Northwest Michigan Works! is receiving more than $280,000 for a project called "The Young Professionals Initiative." It starts this summer and helps graduating students gain job experience in the welding and construction field. "And when we enroll them in our program, we can help cover the cost of the next step," said Diane Culver, a service center manager for Northwest Michigan Works!

Tallahassee Community College helps fill in welding shortage gap

Tallahassee Community College hosted a ceremony displaying their newer and larger welding lab. This new lab will allow the class to double in size taking it from a class of 15 to 30. This new space was funded by the Department of Commerce and took less than a year to build. This course is a little over a year long. Students can gain 6 industry recognized certifications, including their American Welding Society certification.

TCC doubles welding program capacity amid nationwide need

Tallahassee Community College unveiled a new Welding Technologies Laboratory. TCC offers an introductory welding course, as well as a longer welding program. The lab provides a realistic workplace environment for students. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 50% of US products require welding, and there are currently more than 2,000 available welding jobs in Florida.
