Metalworking jobs offer high pay, security
Wausau Daily Herald    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Lucas Groshek didn't know where to turn. Just more than a year ago, the 32-year-old Tigerton, Wis., man suddenly was out of work, a victim of layoffs at Marathon Electric. With little more than basic factory work on his resume and a 1997 high school diploma, his options were limited. Like thousands of other displaced workers, he ultimately decided to return to school. But he didn't want a diploma unless it would actually yield a job. His search led him to Northcentral Technical College, where he learned he could train to become a machinist and have a really good chance at finding immediate work. Groshek's optimism is justified. Metal fabrication — which includes the fields of welding, tool and die making, machining and related specialties — is one of the fastest growing fields in central Wisconsin. More

First, OSHA launched a phone app that allows workers to measure the heat index of their work environment. Flammable or combustible liquids are used in almost every industry and place of business. Gasoline, chemicals, solvents and a variety of other hazardous liquids are found in varying amounts and locations in industrial, commercial and residential settings.
