Professional Welders Competition

For a $15 entry fee, you could win the grand prize at the Professional Welders Competition, sponsored by the American Welding Society. In addition to the $2,500 grand prize, a $1,000 second prize and a $500 third prize will be awarded. The top 12 competitors will win an AWS duffel bag. RWMA Resistance Welding School

RWMA offers this intensive two-day course about the basics of resistance welding once a year. Welding together local partnerships: New program in Jackson, Minnesota, 'fills void' in workforce need

On Sept. 16, Minnesota West Community and Technical College dedicated its new welding lab in Jackson. Representatives from the college as well as local business sponsors spoke highly of the new program. Minnesota West President Terry Gaalswyk thanked the community partners that helped fund the welding program.

Welding robotics 'the wave of the future'

Two welders — one a veteran, the other at the outset of a career — conduct a yellow robotic arm to start, swivel and plunge into a cardboard box at Moraine Park Technical College’s Fond du Lac (Wisconsin) Campus Welding Lab on Sept. 17. Zerick Byrd, 37, and Lucas Hellmer, 19, are weighing enrolling in a two-month MPTC course that would equip them to man machines like these that perform welds, but require a guiding human hand.
