Rise of the exoskeleton
AWS Welding Digest
For the uninitiated, exoskeletons may seem the stuff of science-fiction. Welding Digest’s two-part series on the topic, published in mid-2019, even made reference to the Marvel Comics character of Doc Ock in discussing robotic limbs being developed by researchers at MIT. But a survey of available products in late 2020 makes it clear that the technology is on the rise in the real world, where it is being utilized to enhance human capabilities in manufacturing.

Marrick properties donates welding equipment to help trade students perfect their skills
The Bay Net
Marrick Properties recently donated a weld test bender that will give College of Southern Maryland (CSM) welding students an opportunity to evaluate the strength and integrity of their welds. The $1,316 piece of equipment is used by inspectors to bend weld specimens and provides immediate feedback to students as they perfect their skills. The equipment also allows instructors and students to see if there are weak points in welds.
“This donation is a game changer for our welding program,” said CSM Director I, Master Trainer, Accredited Training Sponsor Representative Michael Langton.

Arizona Republic
Classes at GateWay Community College, Arizona, are back in session this fall, and for students in its trade programs, that means returning to hands-on learning after a months long hiatus brought by the pandemic.
The moment anyone walks through the main door to the campus, a machine automatically takes their temperature. Floors are marked with signs encouraging people to stay six feet apart and office staff follow a split schedule. A cleaning crew disinfects everything multiple times a day.
