Software solutions for engineering to order
AWS Welding Digest
As technology has progressed, managing the many moving parts of the modern manufacturing landscape has become increasingly more challenging. Just as in other arenas of human endeavor, however, challenge has prompted innovation. Among the most important developments for manufacturers has been the development of strategies for the prompt fulfillment of customer orders. Alongside strategies for supply chain responsiveness and production floor efficiency, this is one of the key aspects of what is commonly known as “lean manufacturing.”

High frequency welding method and its advantages and disadvantages
DC Velocity
High frequency welding mainly uses the skin effect and proximity effect of high frequency current to make the current highly concentrated on the side to be welded, so that it can be heated to the welding temperature (1130-1350°C) within one hundredth of a second , And then pressure welding under the action of the squeeze roller.

Technology and teamwork: Norfolk naval shipyard's new welding and cladding system
Naval Sea Systems Command
Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) has continued to make improvements and progress toward a more modernized work environment. Recent modernization has come in the form of new equipment acquisition. One of these new pieces of equipment is for NNSY’s Pipe Shop (Code 960), the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Technologies (AMET) Welding and Cladding System, which will be used to manufacture joints, repair and extend the lifespan of large valves, and service various other shipboard components. The welding and cladding system is an automated process and does not require a welder onsite during its operation.

Starting a small welding and fabrication business during COVID-19
The Fabricator
There’s never a perfect time to start a business. Developing a concept that fills a need is tough enough. Add in the startup costs associated with securing a building, acquiring necessary equipment, setting up infrastructure, and hiring staff. With all that in place, there still needs to be enough work coming in to keep the lights on and the doors open.
Small businesses are risky in even the best of times.
Now try starting a business with all those existing obstacles and add in a global pandemic. Sounds like a recipe for failure, right?

Promoted by Sunstone Welders
The world is shrinking. All the electronics, batteries, and devices that keep us connected, powered, and healthy get smaller and smaller. How small? Today’s micro welders can deliver a 0.02mm spot weld with absolute precision. A tiny weld begs two questions: 1) How do you generate a weld that small? 2) Is there a business opportunity if you invest in micro welders? Those questions and more (like free stuff) are answered by the Micro Welding Application Tour, a seven-step discovery series. Click Here to Take the Tour!

Essential considerations for laser welding
The Fabricator
In every industry, products are being designed, redesigned, or reevaluated for better materials or functionality. The final products are made from many components, and these components need to be joined in some way. One of these joining methods is laser welding.
Laser welding uses a high-intensity beam of light to create a molten weld pool to fuse materials together. It’s a non-contact process, has low heat input relative to other fusion processes, offers high processing speeds, and produces deep fusion zones in a single pass.

Training women in construction - and the employers who hire them
Marketplace
Inside a yellow industrial building behind a Family Dollar store in Morgantown, West Virginia, 13 women were getting a lesson in the basics of plumbing. They all wore masks, sitting at their own tables, and everyone had two sections of plastic tubing — one for hot water, one for cold — to attach to a brass fitting.
“We’re going to start with the clinch clamp, which is this tool here,” said instructor Larry Hayes.

US economy gains 245,000 jobs; unemployment rate drops to 6.7%
By Seth Sandronsky
U.S. employers added 245,000 nonfarm jobs in November after 638,000 new hires in October and 661,000 in September, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. November’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.7% from October’s 6.9% and September’s 7.9%. The November federal jobs report reflects an easing of COVID-19 restrictions to slow coronavirus transmission, which have been unsuccessful as local and state governments resume restraints on gatherings of businesses and public places. November’s national nonfarm jobless rate has decreased 8.0 percentage points from an April high. However, November’s rate is 3.2 percentage points higher than February’s figure.
