CEMA
In October of 2014, CEMA sued the Department of Environmental Protection and the Public Utility Regulatory Authority for their failure to enforce the states' environmental laws concerning the natural gas expansion and conversion plan. Our claim is that the Comprehensive Energy Strategy, which calls for the construction of 900 miles of new natural gas pipelines and the conversion of 300,000 homes and businesses from heating oil/Bioheat fuel to natural gas, would cause significant environmental damage and therefore requires an environmental impact evaluation.

The Department of Consumer Protection has put together an application for Internet-accessible devices like computers, tablets and smartphones to be used by consumers to locate gasoline stations. Although the intended purpose was to give consumers a way during an emergency (hurricane, power outage, etc.) to locate gas, the app will be up and running year-round. The Web address that consumers will be directed to so that they can locate gas stations that are open is http://businessstatus.ct.gov/.

The utility tariffs for January 2016 are in. The rates below are expressed in heating oil gallon equivalents, and so present gas rates on a British thermal unit to British thermal unit equivalent basis with heating oil. These are the system expansion tariffs, which apply to all conversions from heating oil to utility gas. The lower number applies if the home is within 100 feet of the gas main ("on main"), and the higher number applies if the home is more than 100 feet from the gas main ("off main").

The primary goals of PRO$ in Connecticut are to:
- Engage realtors so they say better things about oil heat and so they understand oil heat's bright future;
- Use realtors as a conduit to get our pro-oil and pro-energy efficiency information into the hands of our most vulnerable customers;
- Build strong bridges between top-producing realtors and CEMA member companies so that our members and our industry are seen as a positive resource for realtors and homeowners alike.

There was a lot of pride expressed at a forum on the Paris climate change agreement about the goals set to limit rising global temperatures, but not everyone was feeling good about it.
The "community discussion" was held by U.S. Sen. Christopher Murphy, D-Connecticut, at Gateway Community College and included Rob Klee, commissioner of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection; James O'Donnell from the Connecticut Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation; and, by phone, the U.S. State Department's deputy special envoy for climate change, Trigg Talley, who was a lead negotiator on the Paris accords agreed to in December.
