A couple of weeks ago, dozens of CEMA members came to the state Capitol for our annual March on Hartford to advocate for their customers and their businesses. Meetings with legislators and staff, allowed us to promote our agenda and to express our concerns about issues that would increase the cost of fuel. A bill that would have allowed propane dealers to fill tanks owned by competitors when an hours of service waiver is in effect, was recently killed by the Energy Committee. Several PGANE and CEMA members testified against the bill citing existing laws that allow the Governor to waive the regulations that protect tank owners from fill-ups from other retailers.

For the first time, we now have a dedicated website for CEMA's annual Golf Outing. After last year's highly successful outing at the PGA course TPC River Highlands in Cromwell where we had 138 players, members said they wanted to go to the Foxwoods course, Lake of Isles, in 2018. Our event will be held on Monday, May 7.

Registration is fully open for the Eastern Energy Expo, May 20-23 at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Full information can be found on their website. Featured events include a Women in Energy track; OESP's Care to Ride and golf outing; Hospitality Night; and a keynote by Major Dan Rooney on "A Patriot's Calling, Living between Faith and Fear." Attending the trade show itself is free for non-vendors. In addition, there are several days of business sessions for owners and management; and technical sessions put together by OESP, for service professionals.

For the 2018 April–September summer driving season, EIA forecasts U.S. regular gasoline retail prices to average $2.74/gallon (gal), up from an average of $2.41/gal last summer. The higher forecast gasoline prices are primarily the result of higher forecast crude oil prices.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's (CVSA) International Roadcheck will take place June 5-7, 2018. Over that 72-hour period, commercial motor vehicle inspectors in jurisdictions throughout North America will conduct inspections of commercial motor vehicles and drivers.

Eversource Energy's Northern Pass project suffered a significant and potentially fatal blow recently when Massachusetts pulled the plug on a contract to use the proposed $1.6 billion transmission line to import Canadian hydropower through New Hampshire. Gov. Charlie Baker's administration, working with a selection committee representing three big electric utilities, will instead try to seal a deal with a competing transmission project that would bring the hydropower through western Maine.
