CEMA's 2017 Golf Outing will be held May 1 at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. Golfers will know this as one of the premier golf clubs in the state, and the site of Connecticut's most important professional sports event, the PGA's Travelers Championship. Golfers at CEMA's outing will be able to play the same course that Jim Furyk hit a PGA record low score of 58 in a round.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Office along with local and state police, announced that throughout April they will increase enforcement of distracted driving laws. The "U DRIVE. U TEXT. U PAY." initiative in an effort to crack down on motorists who are texting, talking and are otherwise distracted by using a mobile device.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is permanently suspending amendments to the 34-hour restart provisions issued in 2013 under U.S. DOT driver hours of service (HOS) regulations. PMAA has been fighting the 2013 restart amendments since they were imposed because they remove much needed flexibility in driver scheduling by requiring longer rest periods between restart of drivers' work week.

FMCSA has withdrawn its Jan. 21, 2016 notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM), which proposed a revised methodology for issuance of a safety fitness determination (SFD) for motor carriers. In February, PMAA joined other industries in asking DOT Secretary Chao to rescind the Safety Fitness Determination NPRM until FMCSA completes reforms to the Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA) program/Safety Measurement System (SMS).
