Specifically the Hartford Golf Club expressed concern to us that with potentially water-logged ground conditions, their course could be torn up by our carts on Monday.

Last week, the tax side of the budget came out to fund the $43.3 billion biennial spending plan ($21.3 billion 2019-20 and $22 billion for 2020-21) approved by the Appropriations Committee. The spending plan is $100 million more than what the Governor proposed in February, representing a 5% increase over the previous biennial budget.

Both the tax and spending side of the budget passed out of committee last week with a number of items that will have an impact on CEMA members who operate c-stores. The tax bill includes revenue from online lottery, even though legislation has not been approved to allow for it.

The state budget includes language that would increase the minimum markup on cigarettes from 8% to 18%, which would add approximately $5 million in additional sales tax revenue to the state. State law currently sets the minimum markup from wholesale that cigarettes can be sold at 8%. According to the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS) the state cigarette excise tax collected $367,182,708 FY 2016/17.

The paid family medical leave legislation that is being proposed in Hartford will be funded by a .5% payroll tax on your employees. Most workers are not aware that their take-home pay will be reduced when this program is created. This is the No. 1 priority for Democrat leaders in the State House and Senate, along with Gov. The Eastern Energy Expo, a joint conference of AREE, the PA Petroleum Association and the OESP service managers conferences, will be held from May 19-22 in Hershey, PA. CEMA will be holding Awareness and Operations certification seminars in May and June. These are required for any employee coming into contact with hazardous materials, or who transport hazardous materials. Employees whose job function includes containing small spills (dam, dike or divert) need the Operations certification. We offer two classes providing Operations re-certification on May 29 and June 5, and one 8-hour class on June 4 that upgrades employees from Awareness to Operations.

The gas utility tariffs for May are in. You can compare these rates to your own prices. Gas tariffs went up 5 cents for Eversource/Yankee Gas and but down 10 cents for CNG and SCG. These utility tariffs below are expressed in heating oil gallon equivalents, and so present gas rates on a British thermal unit (Btu) to Btu equivalent basis with heating oil.

Higher operating revenue and gains in its electric and natural gas segments drove Eversource's first-quarter profits up by 14.5 percent, the utility parent reported recently. Net income for the quarter ended March 31 was $308.7 million, or 97 cents per diluted share, up from $269.5 million, or 85 cents, a year ago.
