A new loan program is being rolled out by the Federal Reserve. It's aimed at larger companies which didn't qualify for the PPP loans because they have more than 500 employees. This Fed loan caps out at 15,000 employees and so will be applicable to most petroleum marketers.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) requires both hazardous material transporters and those who offer hazardous materials to common carriers for shipment to register and pay a fee each year in return for a certificate of authority to operate in both intrastate and interstate commerce. However, since multiyear registrations are allowed, not all certificates are up for renewal on July 1, 2020.

NEFI recently updated CEMA about the House-passed HEROES Act, which would require states to prohibit home energy providers from discontinuing service in the event of non-payment. The “fill me up now and pay later” idea spread to Washington DC after Governor Christopher Sununu of New Hampshire enacted an executive order that requires oil and propane retailers to deliver fuel without the customer having to pay until the COVID-19 emergency is over.

The Massachusetts Energy Marketers Association(MEMA) recently alerted their members to a proposal at the Massachusetts Board of Building Regulations & Standards to limit or ban the installation of fossil fuel burning appliances in new or renovated homes. MEMA is working with PGANE to oppose this initiative and NEFI recently sent a letter opposing the proposal. CEMA is concerned that such a development could spread to Connecticut and will work to fight any attempt adopt a similar probation here.
