Last week, we completed the series of six public hearings held by DEEP on the new state energy plan. Nearly 70 members participated in these hearings where they hammered home the failure of the state’s natural gas conversion plan, false assumptions about “fully” replacing oil and propane heating with electric heat pumps, the regressive tax on home heating oil and propane, the need to partner with us on promoting Bioheat® use and the need to partner with our motor fuels members on EV charging.

DSS Commissioner Brennan recently met with New Haven area CEMA members in advance of a legislative hearing to review the 2017/2018 energy plan to address ongoing payment issues from last heating season. The Commissioner acknowledged and apologized for the Community Action Agency of New Haven (CAANH) failure to pay nearly $200,000 in fuel deliveries and identified several efforts that are being made to make everyone whole.

The Trump Administration extended the Jones Act waiver through September 22nd which "will facilitate movement of refined petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, to be shipped from New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas to Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Puerto Rico."

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, which produced the 226-page plan, held a hearing recently. The final hearing is scheduled for Thursday evening at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven.
