CEMA to elect new chairman of the board
Next week at CEMA's 65th Annual Meeting, Peter Aziz of Bantam Home and Energy will hand off his responsibilities as chairman of CEMA's board of directors to Craig Snyder who has served as president of Wesson Energy since 2004. During Craig's time at Wesson, he has led the company in its mission to transition into the whole home services business.
Connecticut Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program to increase MOR
The Connecticut Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will begin Nov. 10 and end March 15. The Oil Price Information Service will be used to determine the daily Fixed Margin Price [or margin over rack (MOR) price], which will be used to pay home heating oil vendors making deliveries to Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEPA)/LIHEAP authorized households.
CEMA October DOT/OSHA hazmat certification courses
There are two levels of training required by any employee who may come into contact with hazardous materials. The minimum level of training for employees who may come into contact with any hazardous materials is called Awareness level. Once trained at this level, you may take additional training to be certified at the Operations level, which permits the employee to contain and clean up small spills.
Highway Trust Fund to stay afloat until June 2016

The Department of Transportation indicated that the federal government is projected to run out of money for the Highway Trust Fund in June 2016, six months later than previously projected. Congress will still have to pass a transportation spending bill by Oct. 29, but this alleviates pressure to complete a long-term funding bill right away.
EIA: Repealing crude export ban will have little impact on gas prices

The Energy Information Administration released a report which will likely influence how Congress tackles the crude oil export ban policy this fall. One of the most significant findings the EIA found was that U.S. gasoline prices would stay the same or may be slightly reduced by the removal of current restrictions on crude oil exports.

Keno nearing January launch

Connecticut is poised to adopt Keno at more than 3,000 locations starting next year as negotiations with the state's two Native American tribes are reaching their final stages.
While the official launch date and rollout of the bingo like betting game hinges on the timing of an agreement between the state and the Mohegans and Mashantucket Pequots, the negotiations to allow expanded gaming in Connecticut have been going smoothly and are nearly identical to a similar deal the sides struck two years ago.

Home heating oil prices are the lowest in years
The time to fill up your home heating oil tank is during the dog days of summer.
"With the price being so low, a lot of people are taking advantage and filling right up," said Dave Spurgas, who owns Viking Oil in Norwich. "We've been much busier this August than we have been in the past."
