CEMA Wage & Benefits member survey
CEMA
CEMA has sent an email inviting members to participate in our Wage & Benefits Survey. This year, we go much further than asking questions on wage and benefits, and include a wide range of business and operational questions. New this year is a dedicated survey for motor fuel and c-store operators, which can be answered separately from the heating fuels questions, especially if you don’t have any heating operations.

Fire prevention — from Federated Insurance
CEMA
In our technology-centered lives, we tend to take for granted what ultimately makes all our gadgets work: electricity! We rush to “plug in” and generally don’t think twice about the power that keeps us connected. To bring attention to a growing hazard and to coincide with 2014 National Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 5-11, let’s discuss electricity — a power source that’s similarly taken for granted and often ignored as a fire risk.

Foley and Malloy drive home their differences on traffic and transit
The Courant
Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Republican Tom Foley agree on one point: traffic in Connecticut is bad. But at a transportation forum recently, the two rivals offered starkly different visions on how to alleviate the congestion. Foley, a businessman from Greenwich, said the Malloy administration has placed too much emphasis on mass transit and has not done enough to expand capacity on the state's roads.

US oil prices fall sharply as glut forms on gulf coast
The Wall Street Journal (subscription required)
The U.S. Gulf Coast — home to the world's largest concentration of petroleum refineries — is suddenly awash in crude oil. So much high-quality U.S. oil is flowing into the area that the price of crude there has dropped sharply in the past few weeks and is no longer in sync with global prices.

Establishing a prevent defense for 500 ppm heating oil
BioHeat
Now that many of the Northeastern states are recipients of lower sulfur heating oil, fuel dealers are asking what precautions they should take to protect the heating oil which they sell their customers. The answer is simple, the same that they should have been taking when handling 3000 ppm, 2000 ppm and any sulfur level including levels that eventually will include 15 ppm. There is a fair amount of confusion at the dealer level that ultra-low sulfur heating oil, once implemented, will be the panacea for the industry, that service challenges will be a thing of the past.

Oil glut ignites gasoline price swoon
The Wall Street Journal (subscription required)
Gasoline prices have tumbled from highs hit in June. And markets are signaling that consumers will get even more relief at the pump. A global glut of crude oil is the main driver behind the decline in gasoline. Relatively cheap oil has made it more profitable for refiners to produce gasoline and other fuels, and they have ramped up production to record levels.
