CEMA motor fuels and heating fuels members sent 817 emails to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) opposing the draft energy plan before the deadline on Monday afternoon was reached. Testimony ranged from exploring the technical aspects and limitations concerning heat pumps to electric vehicles and recharging infrastructure.

Republican State Senators Joe Markley (Southington) who is also a candidate for lieutenant governor, Len Suzio (Meriden), Eric Bethel (Watertown) and Heather Somers (Groton) attended the public hearing that were held throughout the state on the Comprehensive Strategy (CES) and provided testimony opposing the proposal to tax heating oil and propane.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) issued an approval of an alternative life expectancy for underground storage tanks (USTs) used solely for storage of heating oil for on-site consumption. This approval extends the life expectancy of a tank to forty years from the date of installation.

Today, President Trump released his tax reform plan which would include the biggest cuts and changes in 30 years. The White House plan would reduce the number of total individual rates from seven to three (12 percent, 25 percent and 35 percent) and the top rate would drop from 39.6 percent to 35 percent.
