How will the election affect your business, your job and your future
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, Connecticut will elect a governor who either agrees with CEMA’s free market view of energy markets or a governor who will continue on a path to work with natural gas utilities to take more than 40 percent of the oil and propane customers and convert them to natural gas. With only a few days left before election day, it is not too late to get involved and make a difference in the outcome.

HOD audits could cost oil/propane dealers $500
The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) sent an audit letter to all registered heating oil and propane dealers (HOD’s) recently. The audit statement provided in the letter must be filled out, notarized and either faxed or emailed to DCP by Nov. 14, by all registered HOD’s regardless if you offer contract or not!
AEC radio campaign kicks off fall radio campaign in Connecticut
The American Energy Coalition (AEC) launched its 2014 marketing campaign on June 2, with ten and fifteen-second drive time traffic and weather radio spots in Connecticut, Long Island and New York City. Staying true to its mission to provide the industry with a “constant, sustained, unified message,” this first-ever “spring” radio flight was just one component of a comprehensive, broad based, “all inclusive” campaign that in addition to radio also includes: social media, expanded website content, direct mail, print and a first-ever pay-per-click ad campaign.
Congressmen Courtney and DeLauro join CEMA's call for speculation reform
After meetings this past spring at PMAA “Day on the Hill” held in Washington, D.C., Representative Rosa DeLauro and Joe Courtney announced that they are introducing the Wall Street Accountability Through Sustainable Funding Act. The legislation, stemming from meeting with CEMA members and NEFI, calls for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to be funded through transaction fees, opposed to annual funding that is subject to political debate and Wall Street lobbyists who want to see the agency defunded.

Oil will tumble to $70 says new 'bond king'
CNN via Hartford Business Journal
The meltdown in the oil market is not over yet.
That's the message from Jeffrey Gundlach, the star bond investor who predicts oil will plunge another $10.
While another decline in oil prices would bring smiles to American consumers — think around $2.70 a gallon at the pump as a national average — it could spell trouble for the boom in shale projects boosting the U.S. economy.
Consumer office says CL&P consultant dishonest in rate case
The Hartford Courant
The state's top consumer advocate is accusing Connecticut Light & Power of submitting manipulated evidence and dishonest testimony to utility regulators regarding its controversial $221 million rate case.
Seeking sanctions against the state's largest public utility, the Office of Consumer Counsel has asked state regulators to strike testimony by a company consultant who testified in support of a large increase in depreciation costs and who, according to the agency, made exceedingly rosy claims about his track record on rate cases.

Connecticut's roads among worst in nation

That is according to a White House report intended to drum up support for increased transportation spending.
Warming up to biofuels
United Soybean Board
Last winter struck much of the U.S. with extreme cold and plenty of snow. These harsh weather conditions put biodiesel to the test — one it easily passed.
“Over the years, biodiesel has rapidly improved and evolved as a fuel source,” says Lisa Pedderson of MEG Corp, a Minnesota-based fuel-consulting firm that operates a helpline for biodiesel users.
Here are the big winners and losers of low oil prices
The Economist via Business Insider
In early October the IMF looked at what might happen to the world economy if conflict in Iraq caused an oil-price shock. Fighters from Islamic State were pushing into the country's north and the fund worried about a sharp price rise, of 20 percent in a year. Global GDP would fall by 0.5-1.5 percent, it concluded.
