Yesterday morning, Bob Stefanowski conceded to Ned Lamont who will now become Connecticut's 89th governor. After leading Lamont for most of the night, it became apparent that with a number of urban areas yet to report, Stefanowski had no chance of holding his slim lead.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) UST inspection staff have asked CEMA to lets its members know that inspectors have found recently that owners/operators of sites with newly installed UST systems have not been doing the required monthly inspections. DEEP believes that UST owners are being advised that new systems are not required to conduct monthly inspections.

As of Nov. 1, the state of Connecticut prohibits the sale of prepay/prebuy contracts to residential customers until April 1. Fixed price contracts and other guaranteed price contracts where a customers does not pay for the fuel in advance of delivery is permitted during the moratorium. This law change occurred after Ace Oil closed their doors in 2013.

The gas utility tariffs for November 2018 are in. You can compare these rates to your own prices. Gas tariffs were generally unchanged, as can be seen in the chart below, for Eversource, CNG and SCG, compared to last month. These utility tariffs below are expressed in heating oil gallon equivalents, and so present gas rates on a British thermal unit (Btu) to Btu equivalent basis with heating oil.

State government has prevailed in a lawsuit challenging its authority to raid millions of dollars from a ratepayer-funded pot of money for efficiency and clean energy efforts. To help close a budget deficit, the legislature and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy last year authorized that a total of $155 million — later lowered to $145 million — be transferred to the general budget over two fiscal years from two energy and efficiency funds.

Eversource and Avangrid have notched a legal victory in their ongoing fight to discredit allegations that their natural-gas ordering practices cost New England ratepayers an additional $3.6 billion between 2013 and 2016. Last month, a federal judge in Massachusetts granted the two utility companies' motion to dismiss a proposed class action lawsuit filed by a group of New England ratepayers, including four from Connecticut.

Hartford utility operator Eversource Energy overcame a loss in its natural-gas operations to post higher third-quarter profit. For three months ended Sept. 30, the electric, water and natural-gas distributor said it netted $289.4 million, or 91 cents a share, up from $260.4 million, or 82 cents, netted the same quarter last year.

Federal prosecutors are conducting a criminal investigation into the natural gas explosions and fires that rocked three communities near Boston in September, a utility company said last week. NiSource, the parent company of Columbia Gas of Massachusetts, said it is cooperating with the criminal investigation by the office of Andrew Lelling, U.S. attorney for Massachusetts.
