What is the COA working on in terms of advocacy, access to care, employment, education, membership benefits and communications? What should we be working on? We need input from all members to help chart the direction for the COA and the profession.
All members are invited to attend the Your COA in Review session on Thursday, June 20 during the Annual Meeting in Montréal. This session is your chance to learn more about the current projects and initiatives that are being pursued by the COA, and your opportunity to provide input and feedback to the leadership.
Meet the COA Executive Committee and staff, learn about new COA programs, vote on Motions to move things forward, have your voice heard.
Include the Your COA in Review session in your Annual Meeting itinerary: Thursday, June 20, 9:45-10:45 (see final program on site for room location).

Que fait l'ACO en matière de défense des droits et intérêts, d'accès aux soins, d'emploi, de formation, d'avantages de l'adhésion et de communications? Que devrait-elle faire? Nous avons besoin de la rétroaction de tous les membres afin d'établir l'orientation de l'ACO et de la profession.
Tous les membres sont invités à la séance Coup d'œil sur l'ACO, le jeudi 20 juin, à la Réunion annuelle de Montréal. Cette séance est votre occasion d'en apprendre davantage sur les initiatives et projets actuels de l'ACO et de transmettre vos idées et votre rétroaction à la direction.
Venez y rencontrer le Comité de direction et le personnel de l'ACO, en apprendre davantage sur les nouveaux programmes de l'ACO, voter sur des motions pour faire avancer les choses, et vous exprimer.

Canadians requiring shoulder surgery to alleviate pain and restore mobility can find comfort with a new resource — Shoulder Surgery: Planning for Your Best Results. Introduced by the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation, the booklet is designed to help patients become more informed, active participants in their care decisions and assist them as they work to regain mobility. This resource guides patients through the care path, answers common questions and offers a progress diary.
This informative and in-depth educational resource was developed through the collaborative effort of the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation (COF) and the Canadian Shoulder & Elbow Society (CSES). It is through this excellent partnership that Canadians now have a trustworthy resource to help provide comfort and to ease the anxiety that goes along with shoulder treatment.
The 36-page booklet and complementing information sheets can be downloaded free of charge in both English and French from the COF's web site — www.whenithurtstomove.org.
Les patients canadiens qui doivent subir une chirurgie de l'épaule pour atténuer la douleur et retrouver leur mobilité peuvent trouver du réconfort dans un nouveau livret intitulé Chirurgie de l'épaule : La planification pour des résultats optimaux. Publié par la Fondation Canadienne d'Orthopédie, ce livret est conçu de sorte que les patients puissent devenir des participants actifs et mieux éclairés dans les décisions prises par rapport à leurs soins et pour les aider à retrouver leur mobilité. Ce document guide les patients dans leur cheminement, en plus de répondre aux questions les plus courantes et de fournir un journal où consigner leurs progrès.
Cet outil informatif et détaillé a été conçu dans le cadre d'une collaboration entre la Fondation Canadienne d'Orthopédie et la Société canadienne de l'épaule et du coude (CSES). C'est ce partenariat de premier ordre qui permet maintenant aux patients canadiens de bénéficier d'une ressource fiable où trouver du réconfort et soulager leurs craintes par rapport à leur intervention à l'épaule.

Nearly one in five newly certified specialists cannot find a full-time job in Canada, a situation that is leading some young doctors to decamp to the United States while patients in this country languish on waiting lists.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the organization that oversees the medical education of specialists, says more junior specialists are facing bleak job prospects than at any time since the college began studying the problem in 2011.

Sore knee? Aching hip?
A new regional assessment system is trying to speed up the time it takes for patients in pain to see an orthopedic specialist, the latest effort to address hip and knee replacement wait times that rank among the worst in Ontario. The South West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) — the agency that allocates health care dollars in much of Southwestern Ontario, including London — is rolling out a new way to handle patients with joint pain, launching eight rapid access clinics across the region to see patients with hip, knee and lower-back pain.

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine is leading the country when it comes to matching graduates with residency programs with a 100 per cent success rate, according to Dean Dr. Roger Strasser.
"We've never had a graduate not matched to a residency program, and, in fact, in most years the whole class has been matched in the first stage," said Strasser, noting there are three possible stages in the matching process, and that all students who met the mandatory requirements of the M.D. program by the deadline to apply to the Canadian Resident Matching Service were matched.

The only outward sign that Brock Fryday was involved in a horrible accident is his slight limp.
In 1996, the Paisley, ON, man was fishing off a bridge when a car veered off the road and struck him. Fryday fell into the water and his wound became infected, leaving doctors no choice but to amputate his right leg above the knee.
