We hope you enjoyed the first COPA eFlight last week. This news service contains COPA news as well as other national and international aviation news and special announcements that may not be included in the monthly COPA Flight newspaper.

The first of these COPA eFlight communications was sent out June 14, with more to follow on a weekly basis. COPA eFlight is published by MultiBriefs, a leading publisher of association-branded e-mail publications, providing comprehensive news briefing of the week's top industry stories to association members and trade professionals.

MultiBriefs provides this news service to us for free. They generate revenue through selling advertising to go with the newsletter. COPA provides MultiBriefs with a few of our in-house news updates each week and they search for related GA articles from across Canada and around the world to add to eFlight.

COPA staff previews the selected articles before giving the okay to email eFlight to its members.  If you would like to provide feedback, please do so at

Members will receive eFlight automatically if you have updated your member profile with your email address and did not check the box "I do not wish to receive any solicitations from third parties." If you have indicated to COPA in the past that you do not want to receive third party solicitations, your membership profile already contains a check mark and consequently you will not receive eFlight.

Annual Emergency Medical Travel (EMT) coverage for you and your family is now available through your COPA Membership.

Please visit the website for details of the coverage and quick and easy online enrolment.

The annual premium is $249.00.

This covers your spouse and all dependents as well. Emergency medical travel coverage is something all travelers should have when they are going on a vacation abroad or even on a short trip to another province.

Whether it's a family visit in another province, a dream vacation to Europe or a quick getaway to the United States, an unexpected medical emergency can happen to you. And if you do not have travel coverage, you could be facing very high medical bills that could be a financial burden to you and your family. Two nights in a United States hospital can cost over $10,000 and if you need surgery, air evacuation or other emergency assistance, you could be looking at a bill for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Even when travelling to other provinces in Canada, you can end up with large medical bills not covered by your provincial plan. In addition to to regular emergency medical travel plan coverages, a unique feature of this program is that it covers you and your family while you are piloting you aircraft. Other travel plans have exclusions that require you to be a fare-paying passenger on a commercially licensed airline. When you qualify for our travel coverage, you know that you're protected in case of a medical emergency.

Moreover, if you're involved in a medical emergency abroad, we offer travel assistance like arranging for your transportation home (if medically permissible); locating an appropriate physician or hospital for you; keeping your family informed and coordinating payment to the hospital and physician.

Digby Annapolis Airport Fly-In Community Project
Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Airports, like many other municipal services, are being challenged to find ways to be sustainable. The maintenance of their infrastructure and the ongoing increases in operating costs are making it more difficult for them.

The Digby Annapolis Regional Airport in Nova Scotia is one such airport, however, they are not sitting back waiting for things to get better. With this in mind, the airport has announced it is now working with a group to create a Fly-In Community for the airport. With 500+ acres of land and a strategic parcel off to one side of the Runway, the airport is in the planning process of designing an "Active Lifestyle" Fly-In Community.

This Development plan will provide additional capital dollars that will go back to the Airport to assist with upgrades and expansions and the significant increase in activity will assist with the operational costs of the Airport.

To work towards the possibility of a Fly-In Residential Communty in Nova Scotia, the airport wants to better understand the needs, wishes and desires of pilots in relationship to these types of communities. They ask you to take just a few minutes and share your thoughts and ideas.

The Vancouver Sun    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The federal transport safety watchdog said Thursday she has seen "little or no" improvement in major air-safety issues, including improved runway overruns and reductions in aircraft-landing accidents. Wendy Tadros, chairwoman of the Transportation Safety Board, first flagged these issues in 2010 when the board released its inaugural safety watch list. They remain on this year's watch list alongside a new issue highlighting Transport Canada's weak oversight of smaller aviation companies. More
