CPRS Resource Request
A member agency is creating an office procedures manual and is requesting sample manuals which could be used as a template rather than having to start from scratch. Ideally this would be a something that could be downloaded with the ability to edit and amend as needed for the agency's office operation. Please email any samples to John Glaeser, Thank you.

Spray Park water reductions
In August of 2014 Bakersfield closed all spray parks as a result of the State of California Drought Plan. Our spray parks do not re-circulate and were shut down to conserve water. We are now planning for spring and summer of 2015. We have discussed hourly reductions, day reductions, reducing flow to each park, etc. ... I would like to know what other communities are doing with their spray park operations in 2015. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from everyone. Post your answer here.

Food Truck Policy
Cordova Recreation & Park District is finding that with the popularity of food trucks, so are the requests for setting up in and around their parks. CRPD currently has two parks being used on a regular basis for community gathering spots and are receiving more requests. Does anyone have a policy that helps regulate use of parks as well as collecting fees from the trucks. Please email sample policies to John Glaeser, Thank you, or you can leave a comment at the below link.

TB Testing
Are you TB testing new hires such as seasonal lifeguards, swim instructors and camp counselors? Do you require them to get it on their own or do you send them to a clinic? Is the agency or the employee paying for the TB test? Do you require outside contractors who teach specialty camps/programs to provide proof of TB testing? Thank you for your input. Post your answers at the link below.

In an industry full of innovation, the incredible still happens
— the Expression Swing

Playground Professionals
There are many well-documented studies on how the act of swinging builds confidence, balance, coordination, vestibular connections, core strength, and a number of other skills. But what about attunement? What if there was an opportunity on the swing to facilitate attunement and expression between parents and children?

The radical political implications of spending time outdoors
The Washington Post
Human beings love being outside — an estimated 8 billion visits are made annually to natural protected areas, a number that';s larger than the total world population. But could spending time in natural scenery also have larger implications for how we behave politically, or how we treat one another? A new study suggests the answer is yes.

Milpitas council reviews new skate park project
Milpitas Post via San Jose Mercury News
Skateboarding enthusiasts were ready to perform McTwists and Ollies upon hearing City of Milpitas is closer to bringing a new skate park to town. Then they figuratively crashed, learning the park's ramps, walls, half pipes and vertical concrete surfaces may not materialize until year 2021. The six-year wait for the skate park — based on a lack of funding as detailed in the city's completed feasibility study for the project — was akin to a skateboarding wipeout for youth and adults alike who attended a recent Milpitas City Council meeting.

Parkour for kids
The Dirt
Within playgrounds created Carve Landscape Architecture in the Netherlands are zones inspired by natural landforms, as Carve describes creating "hills, valleys, and mountains." Using the best biophilic design principles, within the zones, there are both refuges, places where kids can hide out, and also prospects, like a net-filled climbing tower. And to the side of this adventure wonderland is a terrace where parents can socialize while also keeping an eye out.
