Mid-Year Meeting Keynote Announced: FERC Commissioner Cheryl A. LaFleur
Commissioner Cheryl A. LaFleur has been confirmed as one of our keynote speakers at this year’s EBA Mid-Year Meeting & Conference, on November 18-19, 2015 in Washington, DC. She has more than 20 years’ experience in the electric and natural gas industry, most recently as served as executive vice president and acting CEO of National Grid USA, responsible for the delivery of electricity to 3.4 million customers in the Northeast. She was recently named Woman of the Year by the Women’s Council on Energy and the Environment for 2015. We look forward to Commissioner LaFleur’s input at this 2015 Mid-Year Meeting & Conference.

Ohio utilities were on track for big energy savings before efficiency mandate freeze
Ohio's utility companies could have reduced energy usage by as much as a third in coming years if legislators had not frozen an efficiency mandate last year that was set to rise over time, according to a new white paper from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.
CAL-ISO proposal to FERC would curtail EIM price spikes

The California Independent System Operator filed a proposal (ER15-861-003) with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on August 19 intended to avoid price spikes — also known as "power balance infeasibilities" or "price excursions" — in its two-partner Western Energy Imbalance Market.

FERC Jurisdictional Blurred Lines
Join the EBA Energy Commission on September 22nd for a discussion of how evolving markets impact FERC jurisdiction and how it is subject to challenge by other Federal/State agencies and market participants. Panel 1 will discuss FERC's jurisdiction as it relates to the CFTC, while Panel 2 will explore the intersection of Federal and State jurisdiction in a decentralizing power system. A networking reception follows the panels. Details will be posted to the event page at the link below as they become available.
EBA Environmental Law Primer
Practitioners new to the field of environmental law and energy attorneys who need an overview of key federal statutes affecting the energy industry will benefit from this two-day primer hosted by the Energy Bar Association. The event will be held September 29th – 30th in Atlanta, and include networking events and an optional reception. Non-EBA Event: 2015 Midwest Energy Policy Conference
Join the EBA and Missouri Energy Initiative in St. Louis on October 6th and 7th for the Midwest Energy Policy Conference. Energy researchers and policy experts will discuss relevant current issues specific to the Midwest, including the Clean Power Plan, Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) Seams, energy storage, and biomass. The event will be held on the campus of Washington University. EBA members receive a 20% discount on registration.
Non-EBA Event: The Basics of Natural Gas
The BASICS of Natural Gas Pipeline Ratemaking Course, offered by the New Mexico State University Center for Public Utilities and co-sponsored by the Energy Bar Association will be held October 11th – 15th at the Sheraton Uptown Hotel in Albuquerque, New Mexico. NMSU’s five-day Natural Gas Pipeline Ratemaking Course will provide hands-on, practical FERC rate case training to lawyers, pipeline employees, FERC staff, and other industry professionals who seek a basic understanding or a refresher on the principles of interstate gas pipeline ratemaking.
EBA Western Chapter 2nd Annual Canadian Forum
The Energy Bar Association and its Western Chapter are pleased to bring you a full day panel discussion of key issues concerning international and domestic energy arbitration and regulatory proceedings. The program will be held Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Calgary Petroleum Club. Hear from experts, earn CEL credit (US only), and attend networking events in beautiful Banff and Lake Louise, just 90 minutes west of Calgary. Registration is $75.00 for all attendees.
EBA Energizer — Fundamental Insights on FPA Section 205/206 Filings
The Electricity Regulation Committee of the Energy Bar Association presents this one-hour luncheon on the basics of developing and administering filings under Sections 205 and 206 of the Federal Power Act. Lunch will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 on Wednesday, October 28th at the offices of Greenberg Traurig on L Street in Washington, DC. Panelists will discuss the roles of law practitioners in developing and administering filings and present practical considerations and tips.
