Given the positive trends related to COVID-19 and easing of restrictions in some states and regions of USA and Europe, the Forest Products Society plans to host the 6th PTF BPI 2020 at St. Simons Island, Georgia, from Nov. 9-11, 2020. As Vermont prepares to make a major push toward cleaner heat sources, some renewable energy advocates say wood from the state's abundant forests should play an important role. But other clean energy supporters say the state should instead focus on electrifying buildings, which they argue will lead to less pollution given the largely renewable electric grid.

Composite panel and forest product giant Arauco will close its medium density fiberboard (MDF) production facility in Bennettsville, South Carolina, on May 18.
The Bennettsville mill is currently offline related to market conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The company said the decision to close the facility permanently was based on a broader assessment that the older manufacturing platform is no longer competitive in the prevailing MDF market compared to the company’s other more advanced MDF platforms.

When Republican lawmakers walked out of the Oregon Capitol and brought an abrupt end to this year's legislative session, a massive request from the Department of Forestry fell off the table.
Not even halfway through Oregon's two-year budget cycle, the agency had blown through most of its money for the entire period and claimed it would run out entirely by May. State Forester Peter Daugherty says the agency needs between $52 million and $132 million.
