Amazon's Kindle e-readers and tablets sold exceptionally well on Black Friday. The Kindle Fire was especially hot it was the bestselling product across all of Amazon.com that day. Kindles were selling well not only on Amazon, but also at Best Buy and Target. "Kindle Fire was the bestselling tablet in our stores on Black Friday," said Nik Nayar, vice president of merchandising at Target.

The GWA Symposium Program Committee is accepting presentation proposals from speakers for the 2012 symposium to be held Oct. 12–15, 2012, in Tucson, Ariz. There is particular interest in proposals that address core competency topics developed by the GWA Education Committee. All online applications must be received no later than Dec. 21, 2011.

U.K. business secretary Vince Cable has appointed former Ofcom deputy chairman Richard Hooper to lead a feasibility study on establishing a digital copyright exchange. Cable recently agreed with Professor Ian Hargreaves' suggestion, in his Review Of Intellectual Property And Growth, that a body be created that lists copyrighted works.

USDA's Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service has informally indicated to ANLA that they have been intercepting several quarantine pests, notably pathogens, on imports of boxwood from various countries. APHIS is exploring restricting buxus imports worldwide until risk assessments are conducted and appropriate mitigation measures are put into place, according to Craig Regelbrugge, ANLA's vice president for government relations and research.
