The Nominating Committee is accepting nominations of members in good standing for Board of Director positions for 2017. Offices of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer will serve a for the one (1) year term 2017-2018. Elected Directors will serve a two (2) year term 2017-2019. The election will be held and new terms will begin at the Annual Members Business Meeting during the IAPSC Annual Conference on May 7-9, 2017, in Austin, TX. Nominations are due by Feb. 1, 2017. The incoming Trump administration will hold over several key members of the Obama administration's national security team until it finds replacements.
About 50 individuals on the National Security Committee and at the State Department will remain in their posts for at least the initial part of the Trump administration. The decision was made to provide "continuity of government," according to Trump press secretary Sean Spicer.

Just hours after retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn was sworn in as President Donald Trump's national security adviser, The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. counterintelligence agents have investigated Flynn's communication with Russian officials.
McClatchy reported that the FBI, CIA, NSA, the Justice Department, the Treasury Department, and the office of the director of National Intelligence have been collaborating for months on an investigation into Russia's alleged attempts influence the U.S. election.

In the last month, travelers may have noticed a new sign at airports across the country regarding new ID requirements going into effect next year. Beginning Jan. 22, 2018, TSA will begin strict enforcement of Real ID requirements when it comes to domestic air travel. According to a recent report published by IHS Markit, 80 million smart home devices were shipped worldwide in 2016, a 64 percent increase over the prior year. The Americas saw the bulk of those orders last year, as about 70 million connected home devices were shipped to the market. A security system that analyses a user's brainwaves could determine whether the user is in a fit mental state to be granted access to resources. Details are published in the International Journal of Advanced Intelligence Paradigms. A security system is being developed that analyses the user's brainwaves. The system then determines whether the user is in a fit mental state and grants them access to resources only if appropriate. Such a system might be used to control entry to a building, access to computer resources or even the withdrawal of money from an automated teller machine.

Security analysts soon may get extra help from intelligent assistants that help automate incident detection and response across endpoints.
Firms including Endgame and Demisto are building security chatbots to address the lack of resources and automated solutions available to today's security analysts.
"Security teams are faced with two major challenges: insufficient resources to stop attacks in-progress and lack of automated solutions to uncover malicious behavior in time to prevent information theft," said Endgame CTO Jamie Butler in a statement.
