In the wake of recent terrorist attacks, a lot of rail passengers are wondering how safe passenger rail is in 2016 and what officials are doing to maintain that safety. While there has always been an air of unease about travel in this new post-9/11 era, most of the attention has always been given to the airline industry. Overly intrusive TSA agents and airport safety procedures have become annoying to even the most infrequent fliers. But what about the railways?

As Belgian authorities continue an expansive international investigation following the recent terrorist attacks in Brussels that killed 32 people, new scrutiny is being given to security lapses that have occurred over the years at the country’s nuclear facilities. Such concerns had already been raised in Belgium following the November Paris attacks, when a video retrieved in raids from the home of a suspected Islamic State supporter showed the country's nuclear research program director was being monitored at his residence.

The next time your company's CEO sends you an email and asks you to do something, it might be best not to comply. This is no joke to get you fired — just a bit of caution in the wake of a widespread phishing scam known as "whaling." Snapchat was a victim in February when a hacker exposed the company's payroll information to the world. Mattel got toyed with in March when the company was duped into sending $3 million to a bank account in China.

In three out of five of the largest school districts in the US, security staff outnumber the counselors, sometimes by a 3:1 ratio, according to data gathered by the education website The 74.
Counselors are typically tasked with helping students with their schoolwork, mental and behavioral issues, or getting into college. Experts recommend that the counselor-to-student ratio be 25o to 1.
