Senate passes bipartisan Travel Promotion Act

Landmark legislation that establishes a multi-million dollar, public-private partnership to promote the United States as a premier travel destination and better explain travel security policies to foreign travelers gained final passage by a strong bipartisan vote of 78-18 in the Senate. According to independent analysis by Oxford Economics, the program could attract 1.6 million additional visitors from other countries and create more than $4 billion in consumer spending annually. The legislation, which passed the House in November, is expected to be signed into law by President Obama. More

The devastating 8.8 magnitude earthquake suffered in Chile brought the Vina del Mar music fest to an end. The annual event is one of the longest-running and most popular music festivals in Latin America, and known as the country's most joyful celebration. As the nation mourns the natural catastrophe, the festival was unable to have its closing ceremony, which included performances by Los Jaivas, Beto Cuevas and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. More

2010 to be the best St. Patrick's festival to date in Ireland

Martin Cullen TD, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism officially launched the 2010 St. Patrick's Festival program. Starting on March 12, the six days of the annual festival, now in its 15th year, will provide a wide range of free entertainment, including a mix of music, street theater, dance and family activities, culminating with the national St Patrick's Day Parade in the capital. Janet Kersey named Daytona Beach area CVB President and CEO

The Area Advertising Authority in Halifax, Fla., has named Janet Kersey to succeed Sharon Mock as president of the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. "It made more sense to have Janet replace Sharon than to hire form outside and have someone have to go through a learning curve," said Larry Fornari, authority chairman. "She has been here since 1991. She is Sharon's right-hand person and very familiar with the bureau and local issues." More

International festival "Mexico, One Country Every Nation"
