Report says iFest Group will file for bankruptcy

After several years of financial troubles, the nonprofit that produces the Houston International Festival will file for federal bankruptcy protection, according to a report in the Houston Chronicle claims spending has begun to exceed income by as much as $250,000 a year and has led to debts of more than $1 million.

Community events usually are safe places where families and friends gather, but some highly publicized fatal attacks at outings are spurring event planners to put more focus — and money — on private security, experts said. "These are what we call high consequence but low probability events," said Dennis Giever, a professor of criminology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania who teaches a class in physical security.

Air show deaths increasingly rare, expert says

Air shows in North America have seen a substantial drop in fatalities since the late 1980s, although risk remains for aerobatic pilots. The death of pilot Bill Cowden in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, was the second airshow fatality in North America this year, said John Cudahy, president of the International Council of Air Shows.

SiriusXM announced that it will broadcast performances from the sold out 2014 Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City, from June 6 to June 8, across multiple music channels. The exclusive broadcast, showcasing a diverse line-up, will include Jack White's performance, which comes days before the release of his anticipated second solo album, Lazaretto. Because much of the Wichita River Festival in Wichita, Kansas, is held on city-owned property, the new state law preventing local governments from restricting open carry of firearms might seem to conflict with a rule in the event brochure: "Don't bring weapons of any kind to the festival. IFEA Europe Event Management Summer School deadline for application fast approaching

If you know a student who aspires to play a major role in the future of the events industry, the IFEA Europe Festival Management Summer School is the place they want to be. It is an exciting learning environment, combining academic teaching and best-practice lectures by event professionals with fun, hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience in a major European festival. The summer school is designed as a camp, creating an informal environment and allowing for plenty of personal interaction with other participants. Only two to five students from each country will be selected on the basis of personal applications. The deadline for applications is June 13th. The selection committee will notify applicants of their acceptance no later than June 25.
