A day after the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, organizers of upcoming Pride Month events across the country were working with their partners in local law enforcement to increase security and ensure the safety of those people expected to participate in the month's remaining Pride events.
From New York City to Boise, Idaho, emergency meetings were held and phone calls made Sunday as news spread of the shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando that left 50 dead, including the gunman.

When jam-rock giant Widespread Panic headlined Riverbend in 2014, festival officials said, the show set a record for single-night wristband sales and attracted attendees from as far away as Cincinnati and Dallas.

Two weeks before the annual dog meat festival in the southern Chinese city of Yulin, an international coalition of animal welfare advocates is stepping up pressure on the Chinese government to shut it down.
A petition with more than 11 million signatures was presented to the Chinese Embassy in London, according to Humane Society International, one of the organizations behind the campaign.
