Design-minded companies typically flaunt their cred through inventive and wildly creative offices. Of course, this requires a certain amount of space – and capital – to achieve. But before a business gets big enough to achieve a dream build-out, it probably started off with just a few people in a small, scrappy, temporary space. But according to Stefan Diez, an industrial designer based in Munich, that doesn't mean small offices shouldn't be well-designed and stocked with thoughtfully considered furniture.

Steve Jobs may have changed technology forever, but with the design of his iconic Apple Stores, he also left his mark on the design of physical spaces. Now his legacy is being felt in an unlikely place: A hospital. Healthcare Design
You can't talk about the healthcare industry today without bringing up wellness, a concept that's been nudged to the forefront by reform, the aging population, and the demands of a more competitive market. Healthcare that focuses on total, lifelong health and not just sickness and emergencies is a rallying cry with no end in sight. It seems simple enough, but when considering the design implications, it can get overwhelming pretty quickly.

Unlike the concept stores flooding the market, ShopWithMe goes far beyond the change represented by seasonal collections and snazzy promotional events to present an entirely new paradigm in terms of technology, fluidity, and mobility. "I've long been fascinated by how the reality of a 3-D place and a 2-D interface collide," says ShopWithMe's pop-up's designer Giorgio Borruso. Borruso cites the wall in ShopWithMe’s store is composed of 1,000 stacked white boxes fronted by small monitors. Think of the individual monitors as pixels composing a 35-foot-wide screen for looping computer-programmed lighting effects and high-resolution visuals.

The impact of art in the workplace is often under-estimated. But can artwork have a direct impact on employee productivity or wellbeing? It seems the answer is yes.

As part of an effort to retain Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport's position as the world’s busiest airport, city officials revealed an ambitious 20-year expansion and modernization blueprint. The focal point of the recently unveiled design is a set of futuristic and imposing 864-foot long arched canopies composed of translucent ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene) panels. The aim is to use a modern palette of materials designed to redefine the passenger experience from the moment guests arrive at the airport. But it’s not simply a case of form over function. "The canopies for both the north and south curbs will shade passengers from the hot Atlanta sun, shelter guests along the entire roadway from rain, and encourage fresh air flow along the curbside."

A two-story structure resembling a ghostly light box with very little outward expression was constructed to offset ACNE’s bold, multicolored clothing for both women and men. The facade is fiercely minimalistic, clad in translucent white polycarbonate. Display fixtures introduce brushed aluminum to the materials palette. It appears in the form of three table bases – the tops are concrete – as well as a unit with drawers for the jeans that were ACNE’s first claim to fame, the cash-wrap desk, and two curved volumes that combine fitting rooms and storage.

When it comes to managing every detail, Apple is a company that gets it right. You see the details in their retail stores, the packaging your products come in, and in the Apple employees with whom you interact. Every minute detail is considered when they are building a new product or sending a new communication.
The technique used to analyze all the details that together comprise your brand is called touch-point analysis, and it involves looking at every potential interaction a stakeholder has with your brand. For example, when you think of hotels and how they reinforce their brand, you might be thinking of the lobby and how the guest room is appointed. But truly strong hotel brands think beyond the guest room carpeting and the reception check-in station. They look at every detail each guest will encounter.
